Question Editing BB Enterprise Server via PHP

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,
I was hoping to create an intranet based SQL server that housed all of my company's wireless numbers (including aircards and non-BB phones)... However, I want this DB to be the "source of truth" for all wireless information, so I need to create a program that can interact with the BB Enterprise Server (or BB Manager 4.0.7.9) we already have set up. I do not have much experience with the BB Enterprise Server, but I was hoping I could use PHP to update it. Does anyone know if this is possible, and if so, how?

Thank you very much,
- Jeff

Jeff -

as long as you're only reading database you'll have no problem. Fire up a session to the BESMgmt db and run some queries ... what in specific are you looking for?

thanks for the reply!

I would be looking to update phone numbers, names, and other info regarding each phone. I was also thinking about pulling info from it to generate reports.

I think I'll be able to handle it - BB databases are usually exchange DB, right?

YOU DO NOT WANT TO UPDATE ANY DATA IN THE BESMgmt DATABASE. Please let me be clear about that. If you want to READ data from it that isn't an issue; just don't write to the database.

The database is a Microsoft SQL database

thanks for the heads up! Why would I not want to edit it? What are the consequences?

Imagine if BES were trying to update fields that you were updating ... you're risking corruption and putting your BES environment into an unsupportable configuration.

BES assumes it has exclusive access to the database ... you'll notice that any 3rd party apps that access the database do it in a read only mode.

Thanks again, that does make a lot of sense. Is there a way I could send a request to the BES to update the fields for me?

Such as?

Personally, I think you should leave the BESMgmt database alone. Read from it all you want, but don't force it to do something it doesn't want to do. You're really asking for trouble.

The BESMgmt database will get its information from the proper sources on its own. You don't need to make requests to ask it to do what it normally does.
Just let it be.
