Default PIN Messages - 01-29-2008, 12:10 PM

Hello,

I have a BB from work and it uses a BES, our carrier is Bell. Last week my wife got a BB Pearl from Rogers. She is able to PIn message me fine and I receive it right away, however, my PIN messages are not getting delivered and we are unable to use Blackberry messagers.

Is there a setting or something on the BES that would prevent PIN messages?

Any help would be great.

Yes your I.T. Department may have a policy on it, so you can't use it.

It sounds like your BES restrics PIN messaging (and BBMessenger uses pin messaging) to devices outside your BES.

Any idea why they would restrict PIN messages?

Security reasons, most likely.

IT departments have their own reasons for this stuff. Could be security. Could be something else. You might just ask them and see what they say.

Just don't ask about ways to get around it.

the IT department created a test policy for my BB, however I don't think they know what/where the setting is on the BES. I also don't think they restricted it on purpose. Any idea's where the setting is on the BES?

I'm not 100% positive but I think you have to ask your I.T. dept.

I did ask them and they created a new policy and made a change to the policy however he wasn't exactly sure where the setting was, so I am testing it to see if the new policy opened PIN messenging. Thought I would ask here to help him find the setting.

Can you compose a Pin-to-pin message, compose SMS and MMS

Id you do not see this option your company has locked you out. I lock people from texting all the time legal reasons.

If not there is a proplem with your software. You will need an UPgraded OS on your device

OP - please see http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...-contacts.html
There are currently some random "issues" with PIN-PIN and therefore BBM. Several people still trying to find fixes.

As for BES, IT Policy needs to be:

Device-Only Items > Allow Peer-to-Peer Messages > True or Default
Security Policy Group > Disable Peer-to-Peer normal send > False or Default
BlackBerry Messenger Policy Group > Disable BlackBerry Messenger > False or Default

If I think of any more, will update post.

Another thing is as per this post: BlackBerryForums.com : Your Number One BlackBerry Community - View Single Post - BlackBerry Messenger - problem adding contacts

Ultimately, there are several things that can knock out PIN--PIN messages (life would be far too easy otherwise).

Some worthwhile tests would be whether you can add:
1. People also on your BES via PIN
2. Other users (apart from your wife) who are not on your BES, via PIN

Anyway, if your BES Admin is not sure about this, tell him to register here and join in the thread.

Default Dumb Question - 06-22-2009, 07:13 PM

Hi Guys!
I have been trying to learn about my pin and how to use it with blackberry's messenger. I am a new user. The blackberry site sucks. I found out my PIN and I have my friends PIN. I have gone to add them and I am stuck in pending and they are stuck in pending. I have not touched my blackberry so it has all original settings. Messenger came installed on it. I have the 8320 model and t-mobile. Is there anything I need to do or change in my settings? I have not received anyones requests and it seems no one is receiving mine.

Any info will help.
