Having some interesting issues here with BIS that I can't figure out. Here are some specifics about the setup prior to discussing the problem:

- OWA is exposed by Exchange Server 2003 (SBS 2003)
- OWA is completely visible on the oustide of our firewall
- BIS has been set up with AT&T and we get a "good" confirmation that all is well.
- Only have one email account polling from BIS into OWA (just me!)
- OWA account has less than 900 mails
- No large mails in OWA

The problem is that only some of the mails make it to the handheld. For example, I've had eleven mails come to the actual OWA account today (actually 312, but 301 were blocked by the Barracuda), but only one has made it to the BB Curve (8310).

I've tried everything that I can find in the FAQ's and like to see if I can make this problem go away, all to no avail (reset device, reset BIS account, send service books, etc...). What is so weird is that the messages that it skips are nothing special, it is not like they are large, they aren't subject to any type of forwarding rules, etc....

This is really defeating the purpose of the BB, which is to get the mail timely when travelling.

do you have any filters set up that move files from the inbox to any subfolders? i know you are not forwarding but what about other folders? also, welcome to teh forums.

Thanks so much for the welcome. No, there aren't any filters which move mail around, everything straight to the inbox in OWA/Exchange.

I did find some torn pages in the Exchange database, which I've just repaired, but I don't think that has anything to do with this, as BIS just looks at what I look at when pulling down from OWA.

I'm also assuming that BIS pulls down just like my Outlook which is using POP3 retrieval and doesn't use the Exchange connection. Neither my Outlook or OWA is having any type of issue. The mails (some of them) just simply never get to the BB. I thought that perhaps it might be the timing of when I check the OWA or the Outlook, but I had all machines off the past two days (travelling for pleasure), but only had one mail hit the BB, while when I checked via OWA last night, there were 20 which should be on the BB.

Funny thing is, this just started a couple of weeks ago, up until then, all was well.

OK, did get it fixed. Here was the deal. It turns out that the torn pages in the Exchange database were causing the problem, as to why, I'm not sure, but after repair of the Exchange store, I got over 200 mails which were never sent to the BB. Since the time of the repair, all new emails have been sent without fail.

Glad you got it working. now for my education (and for those that may be having problems w/ OWA and BIS) what the heck is a "torn page"?

A torn page is when the database is writing the data to the disk and one of the segments it was writing was interrupted and is in an incorrect state the next time that segment is read. This usually happens when you get an interruption such as a complete failure of the machine or power supply.
