Question BIS/WAP cost problem. Can I keep both?

Please Login to Remove!

I live in Brazil and I´ve just got my curve 8310, and I was thinking this one thing:

My phone company (TIM by the way) charge 100kb = R$2,90, on blackberrys. As for the data transfering for standard phones, they´ve got (as an example) a 40.000 kb for R$9,90 sort of the same deal going on here.

So, i was wishing that I could keep the best of both, configuring my browser and IM to use the WAP as I pay 10 bucks/month, AND keep having my mail delivered to me by BIS, paying the 100kb/R$2,90.

Is it possible??

Thanks in advance.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

I do not fully understand your deal. Most plans in US anyway package everything you mentioned together as part of our data plan. Data YOU
Usage is usage whether it come from e-mail or another source. Can you get an unlimited data plan?

I could get an unlimited plan if I wanted to, but I don´t think it´s worth. Ok, let me be a little more detailed:

If you folow this:Click Here!, (highlighted in red and green) you'll see that at least in Canada, is just about the same deal. We´ve got also two kinds of data plan, with two different prices.

The Blackberry data plan = 0,029 R$/KB (not to mention the unlimited)
The NON-blackberry data plan = 0,00025 R$/KB ( great deal!)

On the brazilian bb forum, they´ve said that Opera mini don´t work with the BB data, and they have to do that APN thing if they want to use it. Well, a bunch of those guys complain because even though they´ve got the unlimited plan they are being charged extra for the non-BB data whener they use third party apps (like Opera Mini). If l had the unlimited version, l'd be complaining too, but since l don't, l'm thinking this would be a great deal for me, since the non-BB is so much cheaper!

On that link l mentioned, it doesn't say anything about keeeping both of them (the bb and the non-bb data plan). lt says that to switch to standard data plan you just have to do the APN thing, and once you do, You´ll be on non-BB data plans. As it says:

Q: Do I need to modify my BlackBerry?
A: Other than configuring the APN setting, there is no other modifications needed(...)

Can I get email without a BlackBerry plan?
A: You won't get BlackBerry-branded push email and the BlackBerry-branded web browser won't work, so you will need to install third party software. One email application that works on the BlackBerry without a BlackBerry plan, is GMAIL Mobile. Unfortunately it won't alert you (no vibration alert upon receiving email), but it's fine for casual email checking, ala iPhone/etc.

OK. To end this up, I´ve done the APN thing. I still get my mail sent to my phone, and still get my Opera mini working (wich wouldn´t with only the BB plan) . This is a possibility that´s not been mentioned on the FAQ. I think it´s because they were not considering that in Brazil exists a BB plan that´s not unlimited acess. Does this means I´m with both plans?! Whenever l use Opera mini, l´ll be charged for the cheap one right???? Or will they treat everything (BB Mail and Opera) as just one pack, and wich one?? Just wanted to know, so I would stop going online!! Has anyone heard of a similar situation?!

thanxs guys!

yes ,, difficult but possible..
you need to have operamini4 browser installed.. installed it .. then apply for a normal gprs plan ( not bis) .. set your apn (in the bb) for normal gprs ask your service provider what is the normal gprs apn.. now sve the apn , that is all. remove battery and replace battery .. thats all. surely it will work. do not forget to download opera mini 4 browser otherwise bb browser will only works in bis..
