Default WAP question

Please Login to Remove!

I am on AT&T (formally Cingular). Three months ago, I upgraded from MotoT720 to thr BB 8310. I have a question about connectivity.

Does Wap gateway still go through a Nat firewall? Why should I have WAP for the APN?
I know that there is an ISP setting that gives you a dhcp public IP address and not going through a firewall will be a better situation, right? I tried the other setting ISP and it does not allow me to connect for applications with DirectTCP settings but they will work through a WAP of course.
I have the BBpersonal plan and I see on my bill it has WAP on it too. Does everyone that have AT&T use WAP? Thank you in advance.
Can WAP be cause the issues with connectivity because of the firewall? Like with some streaming radio stations? Can I ask AT&T for the other connection? What am I asking for exactly if so?
