Default BIS polling - 03-31-2009, 05:29 AM

We have 5 blackberry users connected to OWA for their mail (we to cheap for a BES ), the 5 users are however consuming more bandwidth each that all our other non blackberry users combined! I have looked around and cant find a place where I can decrease the polling interval, is it even possible try and decrease the bandwidth the devices indirectly are consuming?

Using BIS, RIM polls the email servers every 15 minutes and pushes the mail it finds to the device. If mail was found it repolls in 2-3 minutes and pushes what it finds. This 2-3 minute cycle continues until mail is not found. At which time, the poll reverts to a 15 minutes and the cycle begins again. AFAIK there is no way to change it.

I really can't see how that would use so much bandwidth that other users can't log on.

If you are using Redirector, which provides an almost near real time email feed to the handheld, I recommend you get off that and use BIS.
