Default Blackberry Data Plan Cost - 05-11-2009, 01:01 AM

I'm not sure if this is in the right spot but anyways...

I was wondering generally how much it would cost for a BB data plan (be able to us BBM).

I talked to my cousin that works at Roger's and he said the cheapest would be $60 / month but I dunno I just find that kinda expensive.

If there any other company's out there that offer it for cheaper price or anything?

Btw, I live in Canada if that helps at all.

It varies. T-mobile USA is about 20 bucks additonal on top of a voice plan, which may still be the lowest price in the USA. I know the prices in Canada are much, much higher. I wouldn't be surprised if the cheapest you can find is around 60.

In the US, the personal BB data plans are around $30 a month and BES plans are in the $45 a month range, plus a voice plan. Prices vary by carrier, so your best bet is to call your carrier and ask. T-Mo is probably the low priced spread in the US right now, but they don't have the coverage the other carriers have.

However, price shouldn't be the main reason for picking a carrier. You first have to look at the coverage they provide and make sure a connection is available when and where you need it - where you live, work, travel and play. A cheap plan with no service is too expensive for me.

Virgin Mobile is offering $CAD15 for unlimited Email, $CAD30 to add unlimited browsing. This is the best price I've seen, though very restrictive in comparison to a Rogers plan, even when you get up the $CAD60 option.

The power of the Blackberry is in the ability to leverage the Rim Operations Centre. That is why you pay extra for it.

You should check out the new Telus 'Smartphone Combo 45' package. For $45 a month you get 500 Mb of data, for email and web + 250 anytime minutes. Free evenings and weekends are included. You also get to choose between 'unlimited talk and text' (with your five favourite numbers') - double anytime minutes, or unlimited text.

Contrary to what you will hear (if you have a world Blackberry) roaming rates on GSM networks with Telus are near identical to what Rogers are offering.

I will add that Telus support is far superior to that which is offered by Rogers.

That is not true...

(presuming you already have a basic wireless voice service with them)

I just got a $15/month plan added to my account that allows unlimited BB email and BB messenger if thats all you want to do. (NO Contract)

If you want other IM stuff to work...they have a $25 plan that gives unlimited email, All IMs, voice mail, unlimited sms etc. Basically if you have voicemail/sms cancel it and just take the $25 plan. But I think it needs a contract, not a 100% on that.
