Default How do i get WAP? - 07-15-2009, 02:15 PM

Hi

I've just acquired my dad's old work phone, a blackberry 8100. It has been unblocked so i can use my Tesco Mobile pay and go sim in it (it was previously T-mobile) and i have removed the restrictions put on it by the company my dad works for.

I dont want to be able to go on the proper internet or check emails but I would like to get onto WAP as I would on any other phone. There is a menu icon titled "browser" but that seems to be internet not WAP and it won't connect anyway. I can't seem to find any way to get onto WAP. Is it possible and if so how?

Any help gratefully recieved

Wirelessly posted (My name is Bubbles)

I believe you have to have a BB data plan for that to work.

You need the proper internet to get to any WAP-enabled sites.

Blackberry does support WAP browsing, but the browser configuration is usually managed by the wireless provider. Have a look at your service books. There should be one called <Wireless Provider Swank Name> [Browser Config] (on mine it is Rogers Do More [Browser Config]). If you open it the Description should be WAP Browser. If you have that, look for an icon with the Wireless Provider Swank Name, you father may have hidden it, and try that. However, if you are no longer on the same carrier as your Father, the config, even if it exists, may be wrong.

You may also find in the Browser options page, under General Properties you can set the default browser to the wireless provider wap browser. Again on my unit this selection is call Rogers Mall, but on yours it will be something else.
