No BIS on switching carrier :(
 
Hello, i moved to barbados, so i bought a new sim, and when the carrier tried to set up the BIS it said the phone was imcompatible. Apparently I had to cancel my old plan back home with my old carrier, which i did... but it didnt work. Could there be something to reset?

Help me please! :(

Did you specifically cancel your BIS account?

What is the exact error message? And what do you mean by incompatible?

Is your current GSM phone (9780 I assume) unlocked? Is Digicel a GSM carrier or CDMA?

Digicel is GSM, I specifically canceled the BIS and the error message when activating the BIS is "Cannot activate selected plan. Your device is incompatible with this service."

You have to send a series of network codes, starting with *136# then Digicel sends you a text with further instructions and so on, and i go throught it till the last one when it gives the error code.

Time to call Digicel then. Are you sure that you have a BB data plan and that your phone is unlocked?

Yes im sure of both those things, but calling digicel wont work because they were dumbfounded by the error message in the store. I dont know if there is anyway to reset within the phone the data carrier for the BIS. The digicel people said that when i had the previous carrier, it "locked in" the data/bis to them... I dont know how accurate that is because even after ending the service the problem remains...

The people in the store know nothing. Call tech support. My guess is the BIS account wasn't canceled and/or your phone isn't unlocked.

Hmm.. ok cool... I just check again with my old carrier who assured me the old BIS was canceled. And i assume the phone is in fact unlocked because I was able to put the new sim in successfully, or do u mean another sort of 'unlocked'?

Hi, I'm having a similar problem as well. Were you able to eventually use the internet services in Barbados?
