Update: I simply downloaded and reinstalled the client from http://www.blackberry.com/go/yahoo (and it was the same version). It works again. Weird.

Well, as you can see from this thread, Yahoo! works. =P

As for AIM, MSN, or ICQ, well, that seems to be another issue all together. There's currently no known fix, to my knowledge, for those, as the service books for them are far outdated and thus the services are inactive. Workin' on it, though. =)

AIM, MSN, and ICQ aren't service book issues. It appears RIM has turned off the servers for these.

I did all what was said in the posts...downloaded the new backup and restored it via the desktop manager. I resent service books, still when I log in with my 7130c it says visit www.blackberry.com/go/yahoo to register...someone tell me what I am doing wrong please

I have an unlocked Pearl and borrowed a friend's T-Mobile sim card to try the install that way. When I turn on the Pearl it loads up fine, however it says data connection refused and I cannot get online to even attemp to downloam Y!M. Any suggestions? I assumed when it loaded up with the different sim it would automatically setup the network. My friend thinks she does have a data plan (non-blackberry though) but even if she didn't shouldn't it at least let me use the MediaNet browser on GPRS? I also changed the APN settings to T-mobile's network as well.

Edit: Well I went ahead and used the method in the OP. It's working so far. Already had my handheld registered at Yahoo Mobile.

Default Thanks for the info!!!! - 06-07-2007, 04:14 PM

Worked great for me....
8700c on Cingular of course -

I was little worried about my BES service but I remebered that the BES settings will come back if you desktop manager setup and connected to your email system. Lost them once before when I upgraded to V4.1
JerryD has already posted how to get your BES stuff working again earlier in this thread, so I won't repost it here. I just wanted to confirm that his info is 100% to everyone else.

Big thanks Spencer_CDS for posting this and helping us all out!

Try going to the webpage. It's not very user friendly, but there is a link there to register your handheld and it shouldn't be a problem after that. Sometimes you just have to try and do what it tells you!

Edit: Just go here and there is a link at the bottom to register your mobile for yahoo messenger. The next page will ask you to login if you have a yahoo id already or create one if you done. Just go from there.

Can I ask a stupid question here...i know, just did.

So when following the instructions, when do you actually download the Y IM application? Before doing the instructions or after?

Nope, Y! Messenger is a data-only client and therefore will not use SMS at all.

Tried installing yahoo go for service books had no luck like the other poster said....

Thumbs up Worked great on my Sprint 8830 - 07-12-2007, 02:59 PM

Thanks for the tips. Sprint support said I had to talk to Yahoo. Obvisouly that's not the case.

I did have the "Connot sync read-only databases" issue

"The Desktop [SYNC] and Desktop [Cical] service book marks the databases as read-only, which prevents the data from being restored.

Resolution

Delete the Desktop [SYNC] and Desktop [Cical] service books. For instructions, see KB05010."

They come back automatically when you reconnect to the desktop.

Only noticeable thing I saw was my font changed back to the default of 10.

Thanks

Default Brilliant Post --- but FYI on "Options" - 07-15-2007, 09:30 PM

The editor is located under "Advanced Options" on the 8300 - not under "Options"

Yahoo is working perfectly now. No need to buy BeeJive anymore. Also a good free AIM third-party client is Rambler IM and it works perfectly too.

Default AT&T charges - 07-15-2007, 09:33 PM

It's using data only. I don't think that it would be charging for SMS, since that's a different feature. The data plan includes unlimited data transfer @ 39.99 and 1,500 text (which are separate).

Anytime. =] I kind of understand why they referred you elsewhere, though; most carriers don't directly support apps like this (that is, third-party IM apps, or any kind of third-party apps for that matter), nor can they (at least, we at AT&T cannot) really directly support a specific BES server. Glad the solution worked for ya, though.

Hey Spencer...have you seen this issue?

Hi all, I did this many moths ago and works great.
But now I have a question/issue. I went into my BB Desktop Mgr and was going to delete a couple apps I don't use anymore. After 'unchecking' a couple of the apps and hitting next, it goes to the screen saying X app will be erased (normal)...
BUT below that it shows this:
Unrecognized modules that will be removed:
net_rim_yahoo_messenger
net_rim_bb_qm_yahoo_resource_en
net_rim_bb_qm_lib

I cancelled the delete before it went through, but I'm curious...if I go forward, I'm no rocket scientist, but I see my Y! IM going away. Have any of you had this same issue? If you can try it, but not go through with the actual deletion I'd appreciate it...curious if I'm unique!

Thanks all!

Yes, you very much need to follow the original instructions back on page 1. Mine works perfectly. However, if I go to remove some other application that I don't use, I get the message that I posted...so I quit the removal and all still works.

I have not, but I do know that those service books posted therein will definitely work with Yahoo! the same way they will here.

Bleh, he's right. I had no idea this even existed. Hope someone can hook us up with this; my BlackBerry isn't unlocked and I can't test another carrier's SIM in it...not yet, at least...

I think this thread needs to bee attached to thread in the Rim Software area. I was confused. this is the fix for that problem! Many mods will link them.
