I bought the used Verizon Blackberry 7750 for my daughter as she likes the larger qwerty keyboard for text msg. Verizon says that they can not bypass the Blackberry pda feature for text only. I have to pay $25 per month. They said I should have bought some other mfg phone with a large qwerty keyboard as they can bypass the pda feature in software and save me the xtr $25 per month. HELP, do u know of a way to bypass the feature and use the normal phone txt mode? Jeff

If you want to send email or PIN messages (BB to BB text) then you must have a BlackBerry data plan. If you only want to send SMS messages (normal text) you only need a traditional voice plan with SMS.

You can't end of story, no BlackBerry Data Plan no data. All you'll have is voice and SMS. BlackBerry's communicate through RIM's servers haence the need for a BlackBerry Data Plan.

With Cingular, my BB Data is completely seperate from my Text Messages (SMS). I suggest calling Verizon, asking for a CS Manager, and explaining to them that the handheld will receive NO emails, NO internet, only Voice and SMS. They should let you get the Voice Plan, and a Message Bundle. On my 8700c, SMS messages appear 'From' my cell number, as opposed to being 'From' my PIN. SMS does not and should not require a Blackberry Data Plan.

Just make sure to disable the Internet Browser. $.10/kB of data can add up.

With Cingular I can put a regular GSM SIM in my BB device and use it for Voice and sms.

That is absurd, Speak to a Manager or a proper CS Rep as stated above.

We have a few Verizon's BB that have been on Voice and SMS only because the users wanted to use it as their personal line with no emails necessary.
