Unhappy Blackberry Internet Service... help to debug

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

first of all thanks to all the contributors for this forum. It's a bit strange that, in order to understand how my BB device works, I have to browse through a community instead of having proper manuals from my provider (end of useless rant).

I have a BB 8700g, and I find it a great and addictive device I am a subscriber to Italy's TIM operator, and have no BES but a "free" unlimited data plan through the "blackberry.net" APN.

So far, I had success with using e-mail (worked like a charm), internet browsing (needed a couple of phone calls to the operator before they realized they hadn't enabled my ICS browsing... grrr), and I'm successfully using applications such as Google Maps and Google Talk.

So far, I am completely unable to use any other application which requires internet connectivity (all sorts of IM messengers, NewsClip, midpSSH, even Opera !).

For a test, I used the APN of internet connectivity of TIM (ibox.tim.it) and everything worked, so it isn't an application problem, it's like some sort of configuration is missing from my device.

Any ideas how I can pinpoint the problem and report it ? Operators at TIM seem unable to understand the problem description, let alone solve it...

Question No Internet Icon-Pearl

My son just got the Pearl. We paid for the internet package, but no internet icon that I can find. I noticed you said it took a couple of calls to "enable the browsing". Do you think that is my issue too? Other thoughts?

Thanks

First: did you already register and activate the handheld ? (i.e. create the blackberry e-mail address, and register your device to receive it ?)

If you did, it could very well be. Call the operator, describe your problem, and have them help you. When they enabled the offering, instantly the "Web browser" icon appeared on my device.

Also, you can try re-registering your handheld to the network (options - advanced - HRT, click the bold entry, "Register") and see if this helps.

its a stupid suggestion, but if you dont have your 'wireless' icon turned to the ON position, the web browser will not show. you might just try turning it off then back on. or pop the battery off/back on then turn wireless on of course
