Default SPF and BIS

Please Login to Remove!

I manage a domain on a shared server (for this example justmine.com). I have BIS set up so I can send mail and receive it from my address on this domain (me@justmine.com).

I'd like to set up a SPF record for this domain. I know what out-going servers to specify for mail sent by me from the domain's shared server.

What can I do to include a BIS smtp server name in the SPF record? How static are the BIS outbound server names?

TIA!

Fred / phrider

PS: I'm using T-Mobile, if it matters.

Based on a little testing, the SMTP is NOT static:
Try #1: 216.9.248.52 smtp05.bis.na.blackberry.com
Try #2: smtp02.bis.na.blackberry.com [216.9.248.49]
Try #3: [216.9.248.52] (helo=smtp05.bis.na.blackberry.com)

.

Does this help you? This is the SPF entry I found after doing whois/nslookup for tmo.blackberry.net.

v=spf1 ip4:206.51.26.0/24 ip4:193.109.81.0/24 ip4:204.187.87.0/24 ip4:216.9.240.0/20 ip4:206.53.144.0/20 -all

Thank you.

Now to see if I can narrow that to the *.bis.na.blackberry.com servers....

This link seems to provide some specifics: fudge.org Blog Archive SPF records for Blackberry Internet Service
Two options:
Option 1
ip4:216.9.248.0/24

Option 2
a:smtp01.bis.na.blackberry.com
a:smtp02.bis.na.blackberry.com
a:smtp03.bis.na.blackberry.com
a:smtp04.bis.na.blackberry.com
a:smtp05.bis.na.blackberry.com

Interesting: Yahoo emails sent out via BIS do not come from one of the blackberry.com IPs, but from something like smtp101-mob.biz.mail.re2.yahoo.com

Since the BIS upgrade, the chain of servers before a regular (non-Yahoo) email leaves the Blackberry.com network is longer, but the last internal step in the chain is still smtp0X.bis.na.blackberry.com

What's the story for Gmail? And for hosted Yahoo or Gmail domains?
