Sending SMS messages via email for free in North America!
 

For everyone who wants to be able to use their email to text someone with a standard phone, here are the email extensions for most of the North American carriers....the phone address will be the 10 digit number followed by their carrier extension....

Verizon-- @vtext.com

Cingular-- @mobile.mycingular.com

T-Mobile-- @tmomail.net

Nextel-- @messaging.nextel.com

Sprint-- @messaging.sprintpcs.com (not positive on this one)

ATT-- @mobile.att.net

Alltel-- @message.alltel.com

U.S. Cellular-- @email.uscc.net

Bell Mobility-- @txt.bellmobility.com

Telus-- @msg.telus.com

Rogers-- @pcs.rogers.com

• No SMS Plan Needed: SMS is purely optional with a BlackBerry. You can send SMS by email instead of using SMS. Or you can just stick to email if you only need to communicate using email.
  
  
• Unlimited Outgoing SMS: By sending SMS as email on BlackBerry as described above in this thread, there is no charge sending outgoing SMS messages this way if you have an unlimited GPRS plan. You do not even need an SMS plan if you plan to send outgoing SMS messages only as email messages.
  
  
• BlackBerry Still Benefits from SMS Plan: If you decide to have a SMS plan, BlackBerry can also allow you to compose SMS directly instead of using email addresses. Go to Messages screen, Click thumbwheel, select "Compose SMS". An advantage of doing it this way is that BlackBerry has a special feature that allows you to type SMS messages up to about 1000 characters. BlackBerry automatically splits these long messages into multiple SMS messages.
  
  
• SMS Without A Voice Plan: You can have SMS without a voice plan, if needed. Some people like to use a BlackBerry without a voice plan (especially among people who are hard of hearing).
  
  
• What Is The Phone Number Of My BlackBerry?: If you are on a data-only plan and forget the phone number of your BlackBerry -- you can find out what the phone number of your BlackBerry by going to Options -> SIM Card. Your BlackBerry phone number is always listed there!

I've tried this teleflip out and people seem to receive my messages however it looks like those folks who I SMS are not able to reply back to me.

Any ideas??

I am trying to send text messages using teleflip.com and the extensions but neither are working my service is nextel and I have a 7520. Can someone please help?

what service are you trying to send to i send to alot of them using teleflip and just carrier address

I am trying to send to verizon but everytime I get a "transaction error-timeout" Any ideas?

here's an interesting question.. is the data feature a necessity to have sms to email address capabilities on a bb? it seems like without data, this feature isn't available, even though on a simple mobile phone, it is available.. i've tested it out on two units, and realize it's not possible.. but i thought i'd ask the special group of geniuses in this forum to double check.

My Blackberry is on Nextel. I can send SMS by emailing the recipient's phone number with the @ extension, but when someone texts me, I can't see who it came from so no way of knowing how/who to reply. I don't have SMS service...I don't think Nextel even offers it. Any suggestions? I hate getting random SMS with no idea of who it came from!

Cingular is messed up and has a few email addresses. mobile.mycingular.com doesnt usually work. Most of the time cingularme.com works though. Also, former AT&T wireless customers should not be using mobile.att.net or a Cingular email, but mmode.com instead.

While its a little different than Teleflip, http://www.TxtDrop.com lets you send FREE text messages from the web and uses these email addresses to send the messages.

Unknown SMS's and Can't Respond
 

Ya... I have the same issue with my BB on Nextel... I can get SMS messages, but I can not see who there from nor can I reply to them! This actaully is quite annoying!

Can anyone explain why we are able to receive something (SMS) that we can't full use, aka respond?

I did find this on blackberry's site... I'm actually a little mad that this is something that they couldn't provided! Most basic phones have SMS.. why not the 7510 BB?!?

I think it was Nextel's fault that you can not reply with those models and not RIM. A lot of the older Nextel phones (not Blackberrys) could not send text messages when other providers could.

Hi, I'm new here and using the trlrflip.com trick works like a charm (thanks!) I'm wondering tho why is it that since I upgraded to 4.0.2blabla.. today the sms i recieve come in multiples of 5 or even 7 (same message)?

so in essence is sms free for me
