Default With all the talk about the iPhone and EDGE...

I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to the different networks out there, but I've read that EDGE is ancient and really slow. I was wondering how my 8703e's CDMA 2000 1x EVDO compared to it in terms of speed.

Check here:
JBenchmark Result Database

The fastest phone reported is the Nokia N95 at 1688 Kbit/s.
The fastest BlackBerry reported is the 8830 at 609 Kbit/s
The fastest 8703 reported is at 278 Kbit/s

Don't know why the 8703 should be that much slower. Run the benchmark yourself.

Download it here: http://wap.jbenchmark.com/JBenchmarkNet.jad

It's also listed in my Version Tracker along with other benchmarks available from JBenchmark.

There is some discussion on other boards that EDGE may have been goosed today with the release of the iPhone. In fact, I just tested my Treo 680, and its speed is more than double today (currently 171kbps) from what it was a week ago.
