Default Blackberry Lookups

Please Login to Remove!

We have 2 BES servers running - one in U.S. and the other in Europe. We have mail files located in both U.S. and European servers.

When U.S. user performs a user lookup to a European BES, it takes literally 15 minutes. However, vice versa, when a European user performs a lookup on a U.S BES server it is fast. We are using Lotus Domino as mail server. Everything is fast except the lookup feature - one way only

What takes place when you do a lookup? And is there a way to force the lookups to a local BES even if their mail is in Europe?

Can you clarify your statement of "When U.S. user performs a user lookup to a European BES".

Anyways, when a BlackBerry does a lookup the request goes to its BES to perform the function. The BES perform the search in the Domino Directory and whatever is specified in Directory Assistant. Check your DA on both BES to see where they are pointing to. Of course if the BES have local replicas of the address books the lookup will be quick.

We have users who are physcially located in he U.S. where their mailbox is located in Europe. For political reasons, we have hosted the BES accounts on a U.S server. So here is the archictecture:

In the U.S. --> the users and their BES account are hosted
In Europe --> is where these user's mail files are hosted

when the lookup is performed, it takes 15 minutes . On the contrary, when the user, BES account and mailbox are all in the US, lookup is good .

anything we can do besides move the mailbox? somehow the lookups are going to Europe server and taking a long time.

What's the time between the mail delivered in the mailfile and it showing up on the BlackBerry? How many BlackBerry are we talking about?

Depending on the number of mailfiles you are polling and the latency, the lookup requested may be queued up and it takes that long until the BES gets to it.

We have the polling set to 1 minute. The messages arrive in the Blackberry fast, opening attachments from the Blackberry is OK, its only performing lookups.

If I move the mailbox to another Domino server in Europe, the lookups are fast! I dont know why users with mailboxes on this particular European server are experiencing slow lookups.

I thought lookups would poll the names.nsf ont the local U.S Blackberry server where their BES accounts are hosted, but in reality there is a 10 minute lookup delay
