Default total data usage?

Question:

I'm traveling abroad, and my provider has quoted me at $0.02 per kb. I know that my average email is about 2-3kb, so I know how much that will cost me (and I'm on BIS).

However, will my Blackberry be accessing any data in the background? I will close all programs and do a battery pull to make sure things aren't actively running (e.g., Viigo newsfeeds).

I'm new to Blackberries so I'm not sure if apps will be accessing the network even though I haven't run them.

Should I expect any other data transmission going on, as long as I'm not browsing the web, etc?

You'll get some traffic as RIMs network will "ping" your HH to make sure its still there (figure 200-300kb of data for that daily). Outside of that, if you're just using BIS it should be nice and quiet.

If you're not using other apps, then you've no traffic worries.
