Question Do all roads lead to RIM?

Please Login to Remove!

I'm researching how to implement the BES solution for my company. I've been thru the mountain of documentation on the 3 different network architectures (BES, WAP, and BlackBerry Internet Browser) and I'm confused about the role that the BlackBerry Infrastructure plays.

In RIM's documentation, the Infrastructure explicitly appears in the Internet Browser network architecture. I'm hearing from other sources that it should appear in ALL network architectures.

Is this true? Do all roads lead to RIM? If so, what is the Infrastructure doing?

Thanks!

If you use WAP or BIS, your browsing data does not hit the RIM relay. All mail goes through the relay, and BES related data goes through the RIM relay. PIN (peer to peer) messages go through the RIM relay. SMS does not go through the RIM relay.

Thanks so much for clearing up the issue! I can't tell you how much time I've spent in the RIM documentation looking for this answer.

You can always rely on the BlackBerry forums, but never on the RIM documentation - at times it's truely awful!!!!!
