Default Knock-offs pose threat to BlackBerrys in China - 10-17-2007, 11:26 AM

The China Unicom’s RedBerry is a well-entrenched alternative to the BlackBerry, and could seriously stunt Chinese adoption.

Given the recent attention to the overall quality of goods made in China (inferior to downright dangerous), I have to wonder how long the RedBerry will last.

1st Step in Troubleshooting: Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan?
2nd Step in Troubleshooting: Pull the Battery.

I always wondered why there was no BB-knockoffs coming form China, well "imitation is the greatest form of flattery" right?

China can build all the knockoff handsets it wants, I seriously doubt they can reverse engineer the software due to the security. Not to mention that the handset is the smallest part of the push e-mail solution. They will never get their hands on RIM's server back end infrastructure.
