Looks like this was released a week ago. Only will work for 8320 and 8820 over wifi and only on 1 plane so far.

From the engadet article:

"In a welcome first for domestic airlines, JetBlue will be rolling out free in-flight Yahoo IM and email services to passengers packing WiFi-equipped devices, starting aboard its new "BetaBlue" Airbus A320. Once this test-bed passenger jet reaches 10,000 feet, an in-plane network with three in-ceiling access points is activated, allowing most any wireless gadget with a Flash-enabled browser to view specialized versions of either Yahoo Messenger or Mail through a universal landing page. What's more, owners of certain BlackBerry handsets like the 8820 or Curve 8320 can keep feeding their addictions non-stop thanks to an agreement between JetBlue and RIM."

Good to hear that. Does it mean for TMO users, we could use the UMA in JetBlue?

Sounds like only data, and even more limited BB email (whatever that means). There's just not enough bandwidth for voice calls. Plus there might be too much delay for a call to work even if they wanted to.

I don't mind to be limited to BB email at this moment. It is because I have loaded the GMAIL, Yahoo, and work (redirector) emails into my devices. However, I really look forward to try it out in the flight (first, i need to get a wifi BB. hee hee)

Also, sounds like it's only one airplane so far...

I was recently on a Qantas flight that was testing WiFi and it was a nice addition. I was happy to get on the test plane it made the time go by a little faster.

I was travelling with jetblue some days ago but did not experience anything there. They even told me to switch off my GPS receiver ...

Don't expect this to be free. With airlines charging for checked luggage, they sure won't be rolling out free wifi. I see the industry going the way of cruise ships. All inclusive does not include: luggage, alcohol, real food, window or aisle seats, wifi,. .......
