Default NOAA ditches BlackBerry for iPhone/iPad

This is depressing. It's only NOAA, but a government agency jumping ship is a bad sign. The iPhone has synergies with the iPad and that's a monster hit, no doubt. I wonder if RIM had been successful with the PlayBook would defections like this be fewer?

I saw that this morning. I wonder how long it will be before they go back to BB?

And the DoD is going to issue the troops Andriod devices, using a secure version of the OS.

Is there such a thing as a secure Android OS?

I would bet the DoD version is. Probably NSA developed.

It's disheartening to see this trend, but RIM has no one but themselves to blame. They stood pat way too long while everyone around them zoomed ahead. Same thing almost killed Motorola when they had a hit with the RAZR phone and stuck with the same old design for way too long. Palm too. By the time Palm got around to innovating it was too late. RIM still has time (probably) but it's getting very late.

Time is definitly short. I had hoped the Playbook would support more "standard" features like direct email although it can go to the internet and do Gmail and Yahoo. I'm not sure they are reading the tea leaves.
I still think the handheld will be the most secure device and around for a long time.

Smart move! Now they will have another reason for developing iOS Apps for the rest of us. And I have disappointment from RIM. They didn't do something fast enough to prevent their business from android and most mainly iOS.
