Who is Prem Watsa? Can he turnaround BlackBerry's fortunes?

Watsa, born in 1950 in Hyderabad(India), and trained as a chemical engineer, has a public profile that has at times bordered on the reclusive since he took over Fairfax in 1985.

No, but maybe he can get them re-focused on enterprise customers.

BlackBerry's headlong rush into the consumer space came largely at the sacrifice of their enterprise focus. In 2011 a BlackBerry corporate insider wrote an open letter to Mike and Jim (then co-CEOs of RIM) that hit a lot of nails right on the head. And while he didn't specifically mention focusing on loyal enterprise users, perhaps this idea would have come to light if BlackBerry execs were listening to their user base.

Here's the open letter from 2011, re-printed on BGR a day or so ago: Open letter to BlackBerry bosses: Senior RIM exec tells all as company crumbles around him | BGR
