Mobile operator Vodafone is to showcase a new BlackBerry enterprise server software for companies with their own IT infrastructures at CeBIT 2005. With additional functions, the new version is to simplify administration and incorporate more advanced security standards. Existing customers of Vodafone's BlackBerry service can choose from the 7100V, the 7290 and the 7230 models.

The version 4.0 of the Vodafone's BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software for MS Exchange and Lotus Domino users incorporates improvements including the synchronisation of contact data between the server and handheld, which is completely wireless-based. Mobile creation and synchronisation of mail folders and categories is also possible. Filters, call diverts and out-of-office messages can be set up via the handheld using the software. It incorporates features for displayable file attachments. For example, JPG, BMP, PNG and TIFF formats can now be opened, and Powerpoint and PDF files can be displayed in colour, including all graphics. Another feature is the display of graphics embedded in Word, Excel and PDF.

In the medium-term, the software is to entirely replace version 3.6 for MS Exchange and version 2.2 for Lotus Domino. It supports all functions under Lotus Domino that were previously only available for Microsoft Exchange, such as licence controlling and the administration of e-mail domains.
