It was 10 years ago that IBM and BellSouth teamed up to create the first device that merged a cell phone with a digital organizer.

The Simon had plenty of features. It stored phone numbers and addresses in its 1 MB of memory and displayed them on a monochrome screen. It could make calls, send and receive faxes and get e-mail.

But carrying the Simon was like toting a brick: It weighed more than a pound. Not to mention that it cost about $900.

The Simon never did catch on, and now, a decade later, we still haven't seen the perfect combination of mobile phone and PDA.
