Thereíve been a few criticismís tossed at RIM over the years, sure. One of the biggest gripes appears to be RIMís presence, or lack there of (hello, cliche) in the advertising world. And you know what? For the past few years, thatís been an alright thing. RIM and their BlackBerry devices have been doing well over the years, obtaining over 6 million subscribers - SIX MILLION - without a really solid ad campaign behind them.

It takes some pretty significant money to launch an effective advertising campaign. Personally, I'm glad that RIM has opted to focus their resources elsewhere, including product development.

They've been heavily developing the product for years now. They've proven themselves to the market that mattered, but they've got to do a little more work and fork out a little more cash if they hope to get to the next level. Just my opinion.

really because everyone at my school has a Blackjack or Moto Q I spot a few Blackberry's but not as many. Then I see the ad's for the Blackjack and the Q on TV and they get the job done. I only wish RIM would show the world that Blackberry can be a force to be reckonened with of course we know that but they need to know that too. Who knows RIM getting some TV spots man thier sales would go through the roof look at the ipod tv works wonders

I think you have to look at the market RIM has targeted over the past few years, i.e. business people. I travel quite frequently and in any major airport I find myself in, 1 out of every 3 business travelers is carrying a blackberry. Buzz or viral marketing is alot more powerful than anything that will be in print. I think with the new addition of cameras on the pearls and other units, I think you will start to see more advertising as RIM continues to expand its marketing operations.

I agree onlindis. Whenever I travel, whether it be on the train to the office or in the airport for a meeting, most business people have a BB over any other device.
