Default Blackberry Connect on Tilt attachment Size limitations - 02-27-2008, 01:37 PM

So i have blackberry connect on my tilt works flawlessly except for two annoying things. 1) I cant attach anything from storage card theres no where to choose it or edit it into the list of files it will let you, and 2) its only a 32K size limit! most of the pdf's i have send are bigger then that!

Anyone know how to change that?

Thank you ahead of time

Wirelessly posted (HTC-8900/1.2 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.6))

Yes, there is a size limit of 32K for uploading attachments via BBC. However you can easily work around that by setting up Messaging on the Tilt to directly access a mail account. Then you can attach and send whatever size attachment you want.

As for attaching files from the storage card, when you select Add Attachment from the menu when composing a message you are taken to a list of all files in all folders. If the device can see your storage card then any files on it should be ln that list.

I have the same limit while downloading attachments. No more than approx. 30k is aloud. Is there a way (on the client or on BES) to skip or extend that limit?

I don't talk about conversion size limits. These are unlimited or, at least, far beyond on our BES server for, let's say, .pdf and .doc. So I can view .pdf attachments of larger size, but are not able to download.

Blackberry Knowedge Base KB02678 says that models 850/950 and 857/957 do have such a limit. Is that also true for BB connect? Would not make sense in my point of view as WinMob devices usually come with a reasonable amount of memory.

I have the same limitation. The one way around it that I know of is to use Messaging to directly work a personal email account. Then you can send and receive attachments as large as you have memory for.

Hmmm, it's a bit annoying to forward each mail with an attachment I wanna read to a separate mail account and to receive it that way afterwards again.

I found no hint on limitations on other devices than mentioned above. Anyone else have a clou? Should it really be hard coded?

Yes, it's annoying. It also doesn't matter what device you're using. The limitation is in Blackberry Connect and RIM's systems. It's just how it is. If you don't like it, then at least you have the option of setting up Messaging to talk directly to your POP3 and IMAP accounts without RIM being the middleman. Unless you need to be connected to a BES, that is.

As useless as it might seem at least it's better attachment handling than what you get on the Blackberry devices. At least until OS 4.5 is released.
