Default Using normal Blackberry and BBC - 04-04-2008, 08:46 AM

I have just got a new 8310, which is working very well.

However, I'm used to my Treo which I love and I know BBC is probably the best way to use a non-RIM phone with a BES server.

I don't know too much on how a BES server works - but I had a go at using BBC and the process started, and then just didn't work. I then checked my 8310 and it also wasn't working! So when I spoke to our IT admin, he said I was getting lots of errors - something to do with the PIN number.

What I'm really trying to find out is if I'm able to use my Blackberry as normal, and register my Treo also to give it a go and test to see which one I prefer? Or can you only register one device with an account full stop?

I don't really want to try it again in case they have to reset my account again!

Any feedback would be great!

Cheers.

I also tried to use an E51 with BBC as an alternative for my BB 8320 and I got into a similar mess - none was working properly until I phoned my service provider and they re-enabled the BIS service on my 8320. Sorry, I don't know about BES. From what I understood, you can only have one device registered with BB service at a time. To change the device, you have to change both the device serial and PIN, which for me turned out to be impossible.

You can only associate one Blackberry or BBC device with a mailbox when using a BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server). The same probably holds true when using the BIS (Blackberry Internet Service). You'll have to co-ordinate with your admin and register one device to try, and then repeat when you want to switch devices.

BlackBerry Connect is not really good. There are many issues with it. If you can, you should always choose a "real" BlackBerry device.

i do agree there is nothing better then a real blackberry but to be honest blackberry connect can keep up with a blackberry as far as push email and getting basic office things done i have the 8300 the 8800 and the 8700 and love them all. i also have the nokia 9300 the 9500 and i just got the E90 and the sony P990 and they all have blackberry connect on them and work with no problems. its all about taste i guess. so bottom line BBC does a good job for what it is.

BBC is definately not as featured as BB, but you can switch back and forth. I do with a BES with my company BB and my personal e90. i just like to use my e90 which is why i switch back and forth. you just need to reactivate the respective device each time though.

as far as getting email that is not accessible directly over the internet (as my company email is), BBC does the job.
