Unhappy BBC for Nokia E71 - 07-08-2008, 11:24 AM

Well, I received my new Nokia E71, (neat phone), BUT
Tried to install BBC and it will not install.
I tried the version for the E61i, as well as the version for the E90.
Anyone know if they will release a version for the E71???

Not of much help but, a news articles on the web mentioned that there was
ONE significantly absent feature from the E71- the Blackberry Connect.
As I noticed mentioned on one of the forums online, even th E51 client doesn't
seem to work despite all three- E90, E51 & E71- sharing the same OS platform.

Nokia's Business Software Blackberry Connect
site which normally provides this does not show an E71 version at all.
As of date, both the new E71 & E66 seem to be missing from the list.
Neither does the Nokia E71 Produce page mention anything about it.
Only supports email plans associated with regular Data service only, not
Blackberry.

A bit off-topic, mind if I ask you where you purchased the E71 and how much
did you shell out for it?
Is it the US version or Europe/Asia version? Being on TMO-US, the 3G is what
I am worried about.
I have been very interested in purchasing the E71 especially because of its
unique features. One of them is the automatic scrolling of Appointments in
the Calendar.
Very few websites which seem to be selling it mention the actual
frequencies it supports.

Thanks!

There is a hack out that will allow Symbian to misdescribe the phone you are using. I wonder if that would trick the software into installing. Also, I would try disabling the certificate checks if you haven't already done so.

Just curious is the North American version of the E71 out yet? I've been looking at it and the HTC Diamond.

There is no BBc on the e71. That's confirmed.

We have to choose then: either give up E71 and continue using BB, or, give up BB and use MFE on E71.

Well, sadly there appears to be no signs -I could find- of the BBC
being made available in the 'near' future for the E71.

But, all is not lost- a 3rd party non-Blackberry solution does exist.
Technically this post probably does not belong on the BBF though,
it is a solution for those few BB owners who have bought the E71.

I came across this - link given below- on another forum and have currently
installed it on my brand spanking new E71-2 and it works quite well.
SEVEN Beta Program
Yes, currently it is free.

I'd still prefer a BBC on my E71 though.
Haven't ventured out to try the BBC made for other phones in the same series yet.

BTW the E71-2 is a superb phone.
Gives one a very solid and confident feel with its weight,
clad in the Grey stainless-steel casing.

Too bad its 3G is not for TMO-US

Hope this is helpful to the 'lucky' few.

From all reports and comparison reviews, the E-71 is short when compared with the BB Bold. Particular poiints of note are the audio quality, the screen contrast ratio/brightness, keyboard (always a BB strength of course) and the email/business functionality. I've been waiting in earnest for an HSDPA BB and now we have it in the Bold, it appears to win hands down over the E-71.

Thats not going to work. The Nokia E71 is a Symbian 9.2, S60 3rd Edition device with some FP2 features as part of the OS making your solution above not able to work in fooling applications. Nokia has gone on record that they see RIM as a competitor for their business handsets and chose to go with the consumer market (MFE - doesn't allow tight Notes, Tasks integration, while RoadSync does - not supporting Subfolders; or I got both mixed up. Another solution is ProfiMail).

I'm not sure why Nokia sees RIM as a competitor since they license the IntelliSync conduit that the BBDM uses in "Synchronization (formerly IntelliSync in BBDM 4.1 and prior)" to RIM.

E71 is a great phone, but there are things that it lags behind that die hard BB users just cannot accept. Personally I love the unit and will be buying one soon.

E71-2 RM346 is the model you're looking for 850Mhz/1900Mhz HSDPA bands, GSM/GPRS/EDGE Quadband.
SNTraders in Mississauga, ON has it for $450+Shipping.
BUy.com has it for $389+Shipping
few other online retail stores in the USA have it as well as the Nokia Store in Chicago, New York City as well.

Oh yes if you use Microsoft Live Search their offering any purchase link clicked through their search 25% off called Microsoft CashBack for their 25yr anniversary. Check it out.

Looking for that perfect signature, hmm.

Unfortunately the E71 doesn't allow for BlackBerry connect. I want to have multiple push email accounts rather than just the one Exchange account but that is not an option any more. However, the phone is so much to my liking that I made it my main phone and just use my 8820 for work email...for customers only really, whereas pretty much everything else is on the E71...heck, I am posting from it rigt now!

Audio quality bad on the E71... please. Maybe you should actually use an E71 before making a statment like this. The ONLY facet that the Bold is better than E71 is in usability (which includes email). Nokia designs great hardware, but Symbian is a joke for usability.

Just as an fyi.. since there is a lot of confusion.
Nokia Email Service = Consumer Push Email (free in Beta) = BIS
Mail for Exchange will be on par with Win Mo 6.1 devices in feature support by Q1 of 2009.
BlackBerry Connect has been dead since before the E51 in terms of development. RIM decided not to take over the debelopment of the client.

There never will be BlackBerry Connect on ANY new Nokia phone, including the E71. You might be able to get the E51 version to work on the E66, but that is about it.

@hooper610

You are correct Nokia have indeed confirmed that they have dropped BB support on E series devices so it does look like the end of BB support on Nokia's.

Also i think when iporter69 said the Bold has better Audio quality they were not talking about voice quality in conversations but the Music Player Audio quality. Whilst the E71 is a great Business device it definitely isn't strong on Multimedia due to not using the OMAP chip and the Music playback and Video Playback quality on the Bold is of a much higher quality then the E71 offers as is also the Bolds screen to and yes i have compared them with exactly the same Music files.

I had an E71 from WOM World so i have tried one and to be honest it failed to impress me which is why i didn't buy one but bought a Bold instead which is my first BB to.

Marc

The only problem with common sense is it's just not that common!
