Default New: Blackberry on MDA compact! - 09-09-2005, 05:28 AM

I just got off the phone to T-Mobile who told me that you can now download the blackberry software for the MDA Compacts. It's only just been released, but I was wondering if anyone has tested this out yet?
Unfortunately I haven't got a device to test this out on, so I would be interested in any feedback on this as I have clients that might be interested in this.

Cheers.

well I've been looking for it as well but can't find it!
Unfortunately I got so excited that the first thing I did was post a thread because I wanted to share the news, but when checking T-Mobiles website i couldn't find it in the location I'd been told it was in.
Obviously I've told T-Mobile about this and am waiting for them to get back to me.
Sorry..I should've checked it out before posting a thread.
If I hear anything and get hold of the software I'll let you know.

This is old news, it is already out. You can buy from Expansys: http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=119353

Also the HTC Wizard: http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=125518

And pre-order the SP5: http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=124583

well done for buying the best PDA/mobile comms device on the market.
I have an Orange M500 (same thing, as it Vodafone VDA, Qtec 100/110, etc.)

I had a 7100, what a pile of junk. Even email, for personal usage, was a big hassle. You have to set up an email box which pulls from your pop. but when you delete on the bb it only deletes on this email box, not the source. And this quickly fills up. As for software and internet, no and useless!!

I would be interested to see your results on push software on the MDA.
Personally I use web email, as I have all the functionality through the excellent MDA browser and don't need to store anything locally

good luck!

hehe....it's actually not my device but I support it and I just thought it sounded good and something my user might be interested in.
Still haven't heard anthing from T-Mobile (uh...what a surprise)!

I actually have a 7100t and I'm quite happy with it.

Anyway.....I have an issue with regards to the MDA compact;
there was a misunderstanding between a client and our sales person.
( She'd said she didn't want "always-on" and it was understood that she only wanted to sync her device when she was in the office)
The client wants to be able to dial into the company server and pull down new emails, however the server is not configured for that.
Does anyone have any suggestions as what to do; like setting up a new pop3 account that she can forward her company emails and then connect to that account to get new messages?
Does that sound like the best solution or can someone come up with something better?

Thanks.

the pop3 solution is the only one, if the company does not have dial-in facilities for their network. If they do, she could dial in from a pc or laptop, and sync the MDA compact from this.

there are some software options, but they are all expensive corporate, e.g:
http://www.e-s-e.co.uk/intellisync/

note that exchange 2003 SP 2 and windows mobile 5 will have push capabilities as standard, but her company will still have to set it up. Not sure if the MDa compact will have an upgrade option:

Thanks for your help.
I spoke to her earlier today and she'd spoken to T-Mobile and they'd told her that the instant email application will be available for the MDA Compact in a couple of weeks time and we're just going to wait until that's available and that will solve the problem although she wasn't initially interested in the "always on" solution.
Can't believe that I've been chasing T-Mobile regarding this and they haven't been able to tell me and then she calls about something else and they tell her!! Typical! Anyway...I have to see it to actually believe that it'll be available!

Another thing; can you only have one email account on the Compact or, once the instant email is available, will she be able to set up her work email and her personal account?

The BB Connect Software for the Vodafone VPA compact (which is the T-Mobile MDA compact) can be downloaded here:

http://download.vodafone.de/spopup15.html (German; just click on the button below)

Your IMEI has to start with 35481900 and your ROM must be 1.12.01.

I have not yet successfully configured it.

Did you manage to get this working yet? Can you install it on a JAM, i.e not the Vodafone version?

I was able to install the BB client on my T-Mobile MDA compact and it is obviously working, but I'm still having problems convincing our BlackBerry support staff to enable it on my "non-standard" device

what if your IMEI is different, will it then not work?
