Lightbulb Nokia 9500/9300 firmware upgrades (UK)

Please Login to Remove!

I am in the process of trying to get BB Connect working in the UK. I thought I would provide some useful information to the BB community over here about getting Nokia communicators' firmware upgraded.

The 9500 was delivered to me with firmware 4.44 installed. I took it to Carphone Warehouse who managed somehow to make me wait 3 weeks, only to have the phone returned with firmware 4.51 (*#0000# to check !)

Through reading various forums, I discovered a firm called 'Communicaid', based in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. I contacted them and explained that I wanted version 5.22(1) in order to run Blackberry Connect. They asked for a covering letter and for me to send the phone special delivery - as it was a warranty upgrade, Nokia would pay the return postage.

I sent a simple covering letter and 5 days later, the device was returned to me with the correct firmware by courier (Citylink). If any of you out there are planning to rollout Nokia Communicators with Blackberry Connect, being able to turn around firmware upgrades reliably and quickly will be important.

Well done Communicaid !

If any of you want to get your 9300/9500 upgraded by them, the full address is:

Repairs Department,
CRC-Group,
Communicaid Limited,
Kingfisher Way,
Hinching Brooke Business Park,
Huntingdon,
Cambridgeshire,
PE29 6FN

Good luck !

p.s. vodafone.se has recently launched BB connect - there are a few downloads available from them including english and swedish installation instructions.
