Yes, it works on the 9300. You need three pieces of software - The PC Suite, version 6.6 (load first), the Nokia BlackBerry Desktop Manager and the Nokia SIS file for BlackBerry Connect.

The Nokia BlackBerry Desktop Manager is how you make the connection to BES.

I got it working, played with the 9300 for two days and threw it in the box of unwanted and unused toys...

As a test, I gave it, with the BB software enabled, to my 13 year old daughter, who can use AIM, text message from her cell phone, and program the DirecTivo at the same time. She thought the design was awful - keyboard is too wide to use comfortably, and the GUI look and feel was terrible. But the worst part is that it is very, very slow...

All of our senior IS executives got them for free at a trade show. I figured out how to get them to work on our BES - and it is not trivial. Every single one was dropped off on my desk. And I literally can not give them away. But they are company property, so I can't put them on eBay either.

Hello,

NJ, you wrote : "Yes, it works on the 9300. You need three pieces of software - The PC Suite, version 6.6 (load first), the Nokia BlackBerry Desktop Manager and the Nokia SIS file for BlackBerry Connect."
but does it work with BES and Novell Groupwise too ?
If not, is there any other way to receive Groupwise message with BBconnect on the Nokia 9300 ?
Thanks for your time and help

Regards,

Vassili

Where can you get the software from?
I've got the PCSuite software but none of the others.
Is it a different type of Desktop Manager you need or can you use the version you get with the BlackBerrys?
I want to use it with T-Mobile in UK but they don't support it. They used to have the BlackBerry connect software on their download site but they've taken it off again.

You are going to love this answer (not really).. I got everything from a German Nokia web site.

http://www.nokia.de/de/businessmobil...ad/180168.html

It is NOT the same DM. Remember that BB connect merely gives you the e-mail stack for the BB. All the other sync functionality is whatever you get with the phone (Nokia PC Suite, in this case).

Also make sure you download the Nokia BlackBerry User's Guide from http://nds2.nokia.com/files/support/...erGuide_EN.pdf - fortunately that is in English.

I don't speak German. I hunted around until I found the right code.

Good luck.

you're right I don't really love the answer.
I'll give it a try and use the opportunity to brush up on my German.
I take it that I can get the Nokia firmware upgrade there as well?

Ja.

If I had an FTP site I would upload the stuff. It is way to big to e-mail.

Thanks Vassili - much easier to navigate. Pity that I got the German site from someone at RIM

So I've downloaded everything and just found out that we have no more 9300 in stock to test this out on. Typical!

Just one more question; how will I activate this device? Through the desktop manager? There's no option to do Enterprise Activation with these devices is there?

Yes - after loading all the desktop software and the SIS onto the 9300, you start the Nokia/RIM desktop software (not the classic Desktop Manager) and get it going there. There is also a section in the user manual that you have to follow. It was a while ago, so I don't recall all the details. There is no EA option.

I've finally got hold of a 9300.
I've installed the PC Suite (version 6.5.12)
The handheld software is version 5.22....I tried to upgrade it to 5.25.
The installation completes on the phone but when I press *#0000# it still displays 5.22. Any idea why? Is there anything else I need to do?
When I run the BlackBerry sis it keeps saying the file is corrupt.
Did anyone else have that problem?

OK forget what I just said about the 5.22!!!

I'm still not sure how to proceed?

I get a BBConfApn icon.....do I need to use that?

NJBlackberry - when you tested the 9300, what IT Policy settings did you lose (I'm assuming you have some set on your BES).

I just found out we have a user in China who we *thought* had a Blackberry but it turns out she has a Nokia device (funny how not changing your auto signature gives you away!)

I heard from RIM that right now, having a Nokia is like having a Blackberry with 2.x features. Specifically if you enforce a password via the IT Policy it is ignored/not enforced by the Nokia device. I'm also curious about if MDS works - we have it enabled and all of our BB users can access our company intranet. Can the Nokia devices w/BB Connect access the intranet as well?

Thanks for your input - I've been searching the forums and haven't found anything like what I've asked.

I gotta tell you, I was so disappointed in the 9300 that I never got as far as checking out the policies or MDS! I never used my own UserID - I used a test one.

One of these days I wil fire it back up and see what happens. I thought RIM had told me it would act like a 3.6 device, but I am not sure what that means. I wouldn't expect policies like password enable to work at all on the Nokia. I was just expecting e-mail and wireless calendar - just like 3.6.

Sorry...
