Unhappy Nokia 9300/Cingular BB connect - 06-02-2006, 04:37 PM

We are testing out the BB Connect using BES 4.x on a Nokia 9300. For some reason I get the following erro when I try to send an e-mail from the device:
Decryption Failure. Connect the device to your computer.

Needless to say when i do as told, nothing changes, even if I generate a new encryption key. This has happened on 2 devices, so I am suspecting some code mismatch on versions etc..
Any one have any ideas?

It only asked me to generate one new key. I should mention I was a Regular BB 8700 (vis BES) user. Don't know whether this will impact, but Cingular say they have turned on the BB connect service for my account.
Willing to try genearting new keys..I just don't see how that will help>>

To get my 9300 setup I deleted myself from the BES and re-added it. I went as far as removing the state database for myself as well but I dont think that'll be needed.

i've heard the general rule of thumb when you get an decription error is to generate 3 new keys (i think it's due to something along the lines of 2 being backups - don't quote me on that though since not 100% sure)

Default Still a problem - 06-06-2006, 01:34 PM

I have had myself deleted & re-added to the BES server. I have generated new security codes, multiple times.

Lates from Cingular is to make sure "Content Protection" was not turned on on the BB 8700. It was not. So ball is back in their court.

I appreciate the suggestions..

The shame of all this is that I actually like the device! The Sybian GUI is ok, getting used to it now..but unless this gets resolved, it's going to have to go back.

Smile Solved! - 06-06-2006, 03:09 PM

OK..we have figured it out with help from the folks at RIM

The BES server was set to Encrypt using AES. The 9300 cannot understand AES. The BES has to be set for both AES & 3DES. (or just 3DES) Then after removing my account on the BES server & re-starting it went fine…

This change also didn’t affect the rest of the users on the server who use 8700’s that support AES.
