The saga begins on if it has blackberry or not. Some of the early protos had it in the ROM but I am hearing the retail unit does not....

mine doesn't have it.. unlikely that you would have it too.. the protos were probably for product demo purposes (of its BB compatibility).

I am very curious to see if the BBconnect works better than the BBconnect on the Nokia E61.

Let us know how you like the device-Even without blackberry connect I am curious. I came to the 8700c from a SE P910a. I loved this device but lack of edge and battery life (two a day) caused me to dump it.

The form factor is amazing.
Coming from a blackberry with the jog dial on the right is very hard to get used to since the last 2 years ive only used blackberry and got other phones as backups.

The keyboard is very easy to get used to. The internet although it doesnt have EDGE I would say im getting 56K on standard GPRS.

I cant imaging how they will implement blackberry to work very well on this, but then again i doughted the E61.

Compared to the e61 it is a tight race. I hate the hard keys on the E61 and love the keys on the M600i. The screen is a killer on the M600 and amazing to look at anything even the messaging icon lol. Touchscreen does take time to get used to and for the first time you dont really have to use the stylus your thumb or finger works great.

any other questions?

Are you using in US? If so who is your carrier. I am concerned of lack of 850 band. I am tired of Sony doing this. May pick up an account with T-Mobile to use their phones with. I miss my Sony even though I love my 8700c. I actually did not mind the small keyboard on the 910 once I got use to it. I miss the touch screen and handyday program.

im using it on T-Mobile and having no problems with signal.
THe reason i didnt like the 910 keys was becouse they were hard to push. small and hard to push with big hands= bad phone for me. but with the m600 absolutly no problems working great

I have a question for you. Can you load google local for mobiles on your phone and play around with it? I am really pissed that sony did not include EDGE support in their GSM radio package, it is a MASSIVE oversight for the US cellular market. I would purchase an M600 in a heartbeat if it had EDGE, Symbian UIQ is the very best mobile smart phone OS IMO and would I love to rock a UIQ 3.0 device. I really enjoyed my UIQ 2.1 P900 and it certainly gives the RIM handheld OS a serious fight for its money. The s60 OS on the nokia e61 is just okay not as tight as UIQ. The menu layers are much deeper and opaque with s60, not nearly as clean and organized as RIM or even UIQ.

Another question the left sided scroll wheel, did Sony change the button to a three way wheel like RIM or is it still the 5 way wheel like the P800/900/910 series? I love the 5 way wheel on my P900.

One more question how is the browser on the m600? The old opera browser on my P900 was nice, much better than the RIM BBbrowser. The browser on the nokia e61 is a serious killer app.

We will see how the RIM/SE BBconnect application is. The Nokia E61 BBconnect app is SERIOUSLY flawed, so much so that my poor e61 is sitting on my desk with no SIM card. When the SE m600 BBconnect app comes out please let us know how well it works, and if it addresses the issues in the E61 BBconnect app as described here:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=37005

Thanks!

Phonehand,

Did the M600i come with Ericsson Mobile Organizer and/or Exchange ActiveSync? Do you, or anyone else, have e-mail, calendar, and PIM synchronization setup with either of those? The Exchange for Mail client works well on the E61 so I'm curious to know how a comparable client works on the M600i.

Thanks

ok let me start with
Google local works but it doesnt work well with the UIQ. to get to menu you have to select a few things before you get to it. u just have to use it its thier but not easy to use

the scroll is just like blackberry with a back button. no more 5 way. sucks but then again im used to blackberry so its ok

browser i say is great! I am very happy with it. The E61 browser ofcourse is much better bigger screen and the mouse is awsome and the scroll map is incredible.

microsoft exchange and the ericsoon app is not out yet. it says coming july... we shall see if that works.

Just wanted to bump this up again to see if anyone has found where you can download the BB connect/BIS software for the M600i. Thinking about buying this phone, but without BB connect or the hope of getting it sometime soon is a problem for me. For Nokia, at least you knew where to look for it when the software came out.

Where would one look for it? For Nokia, they have a business website that has it, but I don't know for SE. I also read that in Asia some companies are starting to get trained on BIS for M600, so it can't be that long now.

Question 06-14-2006, 07:46 AM

Hi

I'm awaiting delivery on my M600i (an insurance replacement as they couldnt get hold of a t-mobile UK Blackberry).

I've been on to Sony Ericsson in the UK to make sure that it comes with the blackberry client 2.1 pre-installed - and they tell me categorically that it does.

Does anyone have any experience setting this device up? I'm thinking that it's just a matter of changing the IMEI/PIN from my old blackberry to the IMEI/PIN of the M600i?

Any advice would be greatfully received.

Cheers

Joe

likely it would be the same case as when BB connect is released for P910. The software is pre-installed in the phone of selective telcos and the .sis is not released anywhere.

may have to wait some time before one is leaked

Default Exchange ActiveSync for M600i - 06-15-2006, 04:58 AM

For those of you interested in trying Exchange ActiveSync until BB Connect is released, Sony has .SIS file avaialbe here:

http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?...32307&esi=true

My M600i is on the way and I'm curious to see how it compares to my E61 which I'm using Mail for Exchange instead of BB Connect. I'm looking forward to having a trackwheel again.

How would you compare Exchange ActiveSync and BB Connect...which one is better, worse...if you had to choose which would it be?

Default My new M600i - 06-15-2006, 11:28 AM

Got my m600i about a week ago and LOVE IT! It is the perfect blend of size / weight / and functionality - once I either get BB Connect or Exchange Activesync on it will be the perfect device.

Symbian 9.1 / UIQ 3 - great os, hasn't crashed once. What I really like about the m600i is the intuitive usage, the click wheel works on exactly the feature you will most use in each particular window, contact management and other pda features are very functional (better than the Treo in my opinion). The m600i is also fast...no waiting between screens or delayed texting / typing.

The rocker/buttons for qwerty texting was very easy to get used to - in fact I am beginning to like it better than a full qwerty keyboard, this was the only feature I was a little worried about as I didn't like the blackberry 7100c. The rocker buttons enable you to type very qucikly, and the layout just works with most words you will type.

The screen is just plain awesome....great depth and resolution, touch screen works great with either the included pen or with just your finger (I use my finger on the screen most of the time).

I am now anxious to get corporate email working....I am a little disappointed they advertised the device implying that the BB Connect client was included - but it wasn't, and like everyone else on this site - I can't find it. I am trying to talk our Exchange admin to turn on ActiveSync so I can test it - or if the BB Connect client becomes available first I will try it.

Will keep you posted

Default M600i on Cingular - 06-15-2006, 11:43 AM

I am using the m600i on the Cingular network. Signal strength has been good with GPRS, by reviewing cingulars UMTS coverage map is it supposed to be in my area (SLC) but the phone doesn't connect to UMTS only to GPRS. I am going to call Cingular and see what they say about UMTS.

The only bit of researching I had to do was getting internet connectivity working - I tried all the manual configs I could find and to no avail, but I got it working and here is a few things that may help folks:

- I am an old ATT Wireless customer, which means that unless I get a new GSM card for their Media something service you need to have the mMode service activated for your number. mMode unlimited is about $24.99 a month for unlimited internet activity.

- I couldn't get the manual internet settings to work for nothing, and I tried the auto config service from the main Sony's site, but it didn't seem to like sending a config SMS message to a US number. But I did find this site which does send the config and now the internet WORKS!

sonyericsson.wdsglobal.com/worp/ota/wholesale.tt/sem/wap?step=phone.vm&contractId=12&siteLanguageId=249 &captchaEnabled=true&phoneId=1189
Anyone that is interesting in the manual config reply to this post and I will get it off the phone and post.
