Blackberry Connect -
10-22-2006, 08:44 AM
I have seen several posts in here where people are "installing" BB connect on several devices, and posting where they got it from. I am thinking about a T-Mobile Dash, but wondering if I can install BB Connect on this WM5 device. Can anyone help?

To date, I don't believe there are BB Connect clients for any WM5 devices. If so, it would have to come from T-Mobile.

Yeah there are BB connect clients for WM5 I was playing around with it on a demo HTC Jasjar (branded o2 xda exec). I got the download FOC from my carrier who provided the xda exec
Did I like it, not really. I mean the connect works well but the jasjar just sucks in terms of a device as its hopelessly low on memory, and everytime you press a button you wait 1 sec for a response. Plus the BB connect device connects via a BB APN for BB email, but then to web-browse you need to disconnect GPRS and then connect via the GPRS APN (mobile web in this case) in order to browse a website, messenger etc. this is an incredible PITA as if you then leave the GPRS APN Connected, you wont' getting any BB emails!!!
It's back to being quite a handy paperweight (something it's well equipped for) and I'm back to using my trusty 8700 which just rocks..
to give bb connect it's due it works well on SE p910i, 990i, W600i and the NokE61 but those don't run windoze..

So are you saying that if I call T-Mo USA they will send it to me? I have seen on some other forums where people have supposedly done this, but they are sketchy at best. If someone knows how to do this, or knows someone who claims to do it, I would appreciate you putting me in touch with them. Thanks guys!
Oh bertiebassett - who is your carrier?

Dan
I don't know if you call T-Mo whether they will send it to you. usually the carriers choose to release this stuff once they're geared up to support it which can be sometime after the s/w is released by RIM or the device manufacturer.
I'm based in the UK, and using O2 as the carrier. The link to the download for this s/w is O2 Xda
but i have no idea whethe this is the same device as the 'dash' nor whether it will work for you.
Having said that everytime I've played around with connect on Sony Ericcsson I've had to play around with getting the sw from a foreign carrier and it's worked fine.

There is a Blackberry Connect client for Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC Phone Edition devices. See my post at:
sems.org | HTC Tytn / Hermes Blackberry Connect Client
It gives step by step info on how. It works fine with my HTC Hermes/Tytn unit and I have tried it before with a Imate Kjam before.

T-mobile's Dash is a WinMo 5.0 Smartphone device and the jasjar and kjam/tytn are WinMo 5.0 PPC devices. That difference alone might mean the software might not work. But if you do get it to work on a dash using T-mo USA please share. I had an E70-2 (US version) that I couldn't get working on T-mobile for Blackberry connect.

This Dash sucks. To date I cannot find a push mail solution (other than hosted exchange), so I ordered an E61 with BB Connect. I will let you know how it goes.

I've tried working through t-mobile for quite some time, and I always eventually get the same "we don't support that for US devices" reply. I've asked for the BBConnect software, but they're acting like they don't have access to it. Not that I blame them...
I'm going to try sems' workaround with my MDA, and I'll let you guys know.

What provider do you use, if you don't mind me asking? T-Mobile has either their Blackberry Enterprise Server or Blackberry Email Express (or some thing), so I'd like to be able to tell them definitively which feature to add to my account. I've called them a good dozen times over the past week, and the last rep I spoke with made a point of politely mentioning how often I'd called.
On the upswing, their customer service has been pretty spectacular so far.

I have T-Mobile as well. There customer service absolutely rocks. Just add the Blackberry Unlimited Add-On. You can do it on the website if you want. It is like $19.99 per month and includes unlimited data.

Okay, done and done. The new package seems to be working on the MDA, but I'm not able to connect to my corporate BES just yet - they said it could take up to 48 hours for the blackberry service to take affect.
Also, do you use the Blackberry Connect Desktop for Windows Mobile app at all?

I dont, but I do not use BES, just BIS. I actually dont know anything about BES, except with BB Connect you cannot do a wirelessa activation, you need to have the desktop software and plug it in to the computer, I dont know why.

Well, a big fat no-go on getting Blackberry Connect with the MDA. I got the app up and running, but I've been unable to get Connect, well, connected. I really like the MDA and the *concept* of running Connect on it, so I'm going to hang on to the unit, and hopefully T-Mobile will get off their butts and get it working.
If anyone has any other suggestions (besides getting an actual blackberry), or a walkthrough on how they got it running, please let me know.
Thanks!

Tectonic shift in the debate??? -
04-24-2007, 12:15 AM
As reported by RIM and posted several threads on this forum RIM is coming out in a few months with the Blackberry Application Suite for Windows Mobile6 devices RIM Announces New BlackBerry Application Suite for Windows Mobile-based Devices | RIMarkable | The official, unofficial BlackBerry Weblog. It appears that this app will take over the role of the former BB Connect software and it appears to have the Black jack's name written all over it. Any additional news on the rollout date or how the reported features of this app would work with the Blackjack's features? Thanks in advance.
Just trying to get a straight answer in a twisted world.
