Default Is BB Connect reallly available. - 03-28-2005, 01:58 PM

I love my BB but miss the funtionality that I had from a PPC or Palm. I have seen and searched for what is really avialble and found many mixed messages. I was hoping I could get some "real" info.

It looks like BB Connect is available for the p910i SE (or at least it was at some point - is it staill avail??).

Palm is in beta?

PPC some german version avaialble?

Looking for any "solid" information"

Most smartphone manufacturers (Nokia, PalmOne, Motorola, etc) opted not to implement BBConnect in the North American market, pending the legal battle between RIM and NTP over patents. That lawsuit has recently been agreed upon in the amount of $450m to NTP. With that announcement, the unseen floodgates have been fully opened and I would say to expect a flurry of BBConnect devices introduced into the consumer/business market within the next 3-6 months at the earliest (which is a realistic time period, imo). The Nokia Communicator is already equipped with BBConnect in the Japanese market, from what I've heard. You have the MDA II in Germany (you can find these on eBay). You have the Siemens butterfly phone (limited) on some continent.

So yes, its a reality. The simple reason North America (which is where I'll assume you are) has not seen it yet is the lawsuit. But hey, I'm sort of glad its been delayed... other markets have been the test markets for the largest BB market in the world.

I have BB connect running on my SE P910i but it is a rather old version (though only recently released by SE Singapore) and limited in features.

And I had played with a leaked version from T-Mobile Austria which was much more complete in features and more stable. Unfortunately, RIM has blocked all access through this version and effectively made this version useless.
