I have to return my 8700 for yet anothet replacement. (The recurring continuous reboot problem that I posted on in the 8700 forum never fixed itself.) So before I return it under warranty next week, I thought it a good idea to downgrade my OS from Telstra to Rogers .284. And since I have it for the weekend I just tried a successful experiment.

I edited the .284 blackberry.alx file to unlock Zen and the other themes. I then renamed the Vodafone file in Rogers as net_rim_theme_120_320x240.cod.old and pasted the Telstra version of the file (same name: net_rim_theme_120_320x240.cod) into the Java folder to replace it. As many of you know, the new red and gray Vodafone theme in Telstra is gorgeous and much nicer than the .284 version.

It worked! I have the old version of Zen - it's really nice again to have the option of turning home screen application names off - and the Telstra version of Vodafone is working great under OS .284.

Obviously I can't run the Today themes but I am rather pleased with this set-up.
