Default Problem with Theme Builder

Please Login to Remove!

The problem i'm having is that the mages I choose as a background picture (desktop and for incoming call screen) are less than 60kb yet it still says that it's over 60kb. I resize the images, reduce the quality significantly which makes the picture look worse and make sure that the size is still much less than the previous one but still get error messages saying the picture is still oversized. The most i've done was create the themes w/o a desktop background and just add that manually once I download my theme. I've noticed that the quality on the themes built and requested on this site looks great and have to ask. Is there something that I'm doing wrong?

What software r u using to edit your images? If you can get a copy of photoshop or paintshop i would do that it will help you when re-sizing and saving the images. Each of those have several options when saving the final image that will help reduce the file size and keep the quality of the image. Try saving your image as a .gif it will reduce the file size and often (depending on the image) will not ruin the quality to the point you no longer want to use it.

i'm actually using photoshop 7 and save as a jpeg and also reduce the size to the lowest possible which is what definitely changes the quality of the picture. the size that i try to save it as is 240 x 260 and then select "low" when saving. i've also reduced the actual size as well. I'll take your advice and try saving as a .gif and see what happens, thanks!

Backgrounds in themes are always .png's. When you use a .jpg, the theme builder will convert it to a .png behind the scenes. You need to save it as a .png and tweak the settings until it's under the limit.

I tried saving as a .png but still having difficulty keeping the image noticable so I started saving them as a .GIF and can keep the size at 240 x 260 without sacrificing the quality of the image. thanks for everyone's advice.

Use the File / Save for Web option in photoshop. There will be an option for customize (I think) where you can save as PNG 8 and specify max file size. I use 56 K and I works great.

Hope this helps.
