Default Noob question...whats so great about the zen theme?

Please Login to Remove!

Its about all I ever see ppl talk about. Heck there is even a sticky for it here. What exactly does it allow you to do that you can't without it?

It's a hybrid between List and Icon formats (Icon-based List format) that cleans up the viewable area and allows viewing of your background. It's a peaceful harmony between the two different theme styles to that point in time. Basically, at the time, it was something new... it grew on people like a virus and most haven't left since. You'll learn to rely on keyboard shortcuts with the theme, as there is only room for 5 applications on the main screen. When using the shortcuts, you'll learn everything is MUCH faster in day-to-day operations.

Well I've migrated from a Sidekick to the 8700g. With the SK there was a lot of keyboard shortcuts so this is one of the things I read about with Zen that interests me a lot.

I followed a thread on how to install Zen, and basically all I need to do is connect my BB and hit update.

But before I do, IF I don't like it, can I go back? Or is the Zen theme basically just another theme you can select from the list so if I don't care for it can I go back to the theme I had.

I just don't wanna screw anything up since I don't know how to fix it because I'm brand new with the BB.

It allows you to see those nice looking wallpapers that you have on your bb, it's nicely organize and it's easier to look for the app that your looking for. SMS/MMS and email messages are in a separate mailbox. And did I forget to tell you that they look great. :D you should try installing it and get the feel of it.

I just started using it the other day. I like it as I can keep the core 5 apps: Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Phone log, on the home screen and bury everything else until I need it.

That and I get to obsess over wallpaper now.

Yes, if you don't like it, you can switch back to what you had.

I agree, I especially like the T-Mobile Zen theme. The only thing missing on it is the ability to separate SMS/MMS and email into different folders.

Well Zen used to the best theme....that is until this week when RIM released TodayPlus which is a combo of Zen and Today. It is the new king of the themes IMHO.

"Today Plus"? Are you sure this is a BB theme? As I recall, Today Plus is not really a "theme" at all, but a 3rd party application you can purchase and install, which can mimick the "Today" screen of Windows Mobile devices...
someone correct me if I'm wrong.
