Default Unite! BBF Guide - 05-12-2008, 03:10 PM

Actual Unite! guide (rather than the basic one that RIM put up)
What do you want to see in there? All other posts besides suggestions for the guide will be moved.

A notice that Unite! installs an IT policy on the device. That seems to be the big issue.

...That you have to have the "Server" service on windows enabled or weird crap happens and it doesn't tell you that is why. I was having trouble with communication between my dispatcher service and my controller service as well as the Unite Connector. It was failing on RPC calls, but it wasn't telling me that. By default, all of my home machines have the server service disabled as it just takes up memory, opens security holes and usually isn't needed for the average user.

Suggestion..........DO NOT INSTALL UNITE----UNLESS you fully read the guide first. ***Policy gets installed***
***PC needs to be running at all times***

.....and all the other suggestions.

Sorry this is taking so long, do we have any other suggestions on what to include? I am going to include the existing guide into it, just to keep it all in one place.

Maybe something to the effect that if you want to get rid of Unite, but don't want to go through the wipe-restore cycle right away, changing the HandheldBlob to the hex value from the default policy record, or one of Grimlin's prior to deleting the user will leave the BB in a less draconian state than Unite out of the box. For those who don't heed Nextel User's advice, and then find out that getting rid of it is too advanced for them.
