Default Blackberry Unite! - 10-04-2007, 04:21 PM

Research In Motion

Free download, looks like it will be launching on Telefonica soon!

Quote:
BlackBerry® Unite!™ software will allow a small group of up to 5 users to:

Stay connected with wireless email and web browsing – enables easy wireless access to up to five supported email accounts (per user) using sophisticated wireless encryption security, allows shared contact lists and supports high-performance mobile web browsing.

Coordinate schedules using shared calendars – provides a wireless shared calendar with the capability to check each others’ availability, set up or modify appointments and send reminders.

Remotely access content – users can remotely download pictures, music, documents and other content on their desktop PC directly from their BlackBerry smartphone**.

Share photos and files - users can share photos and files with other group members directly from their BlackBerry smartphone.

Remotely secure the smartphones – includes simple controls to enforce password protection or wirelessly erase a lost or stolen handset.

Control smartphone use - includes customizable wireless settings to control certain uses for each individual, such as the ability to restrict long distance calls or certain online content.

Protect smartphone content – contacts, pictures and other data from the BlackBerry smartphone can be backed up automatically over the air (via a cellular or Wi-Fi® network) to the desktop PC.

Set up quickly and easily – the BlackBerry Unite! software will be provided as a free download and, with the help of an easy-to-follow setup wizard, can be installed in minutes on a desktop PC.

RIM will release it 'soon'.

It is not like blackberry messenger. It seems to be more like a cross between Orb (in that one can browse files on a home PC and share them) and a mini BES server (calander sharing and remote disabling of devices).

Will this work with other carriers, or is there a way they can restrict it to Telefonica customers?

I cant wait for that to come that will be the best thing ever given to us.

too bad it will only be available to users witha media card so the older BBS are out of luck

* requires customer to subscribe to a qualifying wireless data service plan.
** requires a microSD card.

Any idea if this will work for BES users? It sounds like it duplicates some things that are already incorporated into BES, so I don't know if there would be issues.

Wirelessly posted (8703e: BlackBerry8703e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

As an 8703e owner I am hoping that at least the shared schedule option would be available to us...

When I first opened the link, I thought there was a download. I did not see anything to indicate BES or BIS.

Looks like OS4.3 is required!

Quote:
*Dual calendars are supported for BlackBerry smartphones connected to BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Unite! software. BlackBerry Device Software v4.3 is required. The ability to create Private Flag calendar entries is required to create calendar entries that will not be shared with other BlackBerry Unite! users.

This looks like exactly what I need since I don't have access to a BES. Has anyone heard anything about it lately?
