I agree completely something like $100 million dollars (dr evil) fund. RIM should if they haven't already come to terms with the fact that this is no longer just a corporate email device. RIM is marketing it to the consumer, prosumer and business class so they need to support the developers and with that continue to grow.
On thing has me thinking about RIM outages, .MAC outages, Twitter etc. Are they all (I'm talking about services) having issues with scaling like Twitter is? Has RIM grow so big that they are having issues with that? Will .MAC/MobileMe have the same issues. Its a question that has to be asked regardless of which platform you are on, isn't it?

I am sure Apple has their reasons for locking out say location based services, GPS and a few others mentioned in their legal info SDK etc. but RIM has no such issue allowing 3rd part GPS and location based services. I guess RIM doesn't mind others making money in areas others companies do.

I wonder if Google just tossed out $10 million to see what would hatch, they certainly can through out tons more later once they actually get a phone working.
On the Apple fund, is that Apples cash or a private equity firms cash? If its Apples then that would raise a few questions about the first round winners and their association with the fund manager, if its the fund managers (private equity firm) then it really raises questions because if it was the former then Apple should be concerned about inside stuff and its the latter then business as usual.

OS 4.6 is also updated and much better based on what we have seen, I have not see OS 2.0 for Apple yet so I can't compare it to what I have seen on OS 1.0
This thread is Bold vs iPhone is it not, so basic features are just as important as advance ones wouldn't you agree!

Maybe not RIM, but certain carriers do. I won't mention them as I don't want to get Dawg all worked up.

I don't know why people have to get so hostile or only bring up the the things one device can't do when trying to boost their device of choice when comparing the two devices.
They both have simple things they can't do.
iPhone cant MMS or Copy and Paste.
Bold can't synch your stuff to a web application.
They both have their flaws and in the end, people will pick the one who's flaws don't matter to them.

You need to relax. I wasn't inciting anything and has nothing to do with you. I know Dawg gets worked up when someone mentions Verizon and GPS, It was a friendly dig at him.

I actually have both right now (not the bold) but the 8800 and an iphone (1st version). I must say that the iphone is addicting but there are some things that seem pretty obvious but apple just didn't do it. I will not be doing the iphone 3g right off the bat because I am in an area that is not covered by 3g (and to set things straight, my buddy bought me the iphone) but you find yourself messin' with the iphone alot

No .... actually Google tossed their money in their first. I remember watching the announcement several months ago. I just have no interest in Android until I actually get a chance to play with one. I don't argue about deviced I know nothing about.

I'm switching back to a BB after using the iPhone for almost a year. Yes, Apple got a lot right, but some of the stuff they got wrong was pretty big. And it seems like they're not interested in correcting it (MMS, copy/paste, etc). I just feel like I can do more with a BB, especially the Bold.

Interesting device.

That will be changing, at WES this year there was a session for carriers about the topic: Exploring the pay as you go market.
That will be yet another untapped market that Blackberry will explode in. All depends on the pricing.

This is fantastic news! If its at a decent price I will buy one streight away!
I think BlackBerry is trying to get to a non-buisness audience, by the looks of the new TV advert, and the fact they are advertising at all.
Lets hope the Bold is on pay as you go, too, and like I said, at a decent price, then I will almost certainly get one!

LOL I did! But in my defense, I was a misinformed purchaser. Once I found out about the new one I immediately brought it back. Now I'm torn between getting the Bold or the 3g iphone! TORN I TELL YA!! lol I LOVE the functionality and ease of the blackberry but the Safari browser is tough to overlook. I, like most people can't figure out why the iphone doesnt have MMS...puzzling.
One a side note, shame on the AT&T store employees who failed to tell me about the new iphone that was going to be announced only days later...who wouldnt bring it back??

bosco, if you had kept it you could have simply brought it back in when when the new version is released and got the new one. everyone who bought the first iphone from May 27 - on qualifies to exchange it for the 3G model when it is released.
Guess it depends on when you purchased it.

The big factor for me will be how good the music player and camera are on the bold/iphone. Also, does anyone know if the iPhone will have a messenger program like BB Messenger pre-loaded?

nothing preloaded has been announced. Looks like Apple has left all Messenger programs up to the developers, App store will open July 11th and I'm guessing it will have dozens of chat clients.

Ironically I am still half buzzed and posting via an iPhone....
Regardless of the pi$$ing matches taking place here the original topic is a great question.
I have used BBs for a long time but my last year (personal use) has been with an iPhone. Am I signing up for 3G right away? Nope. Am I in a 3G area? Yes, Atlanta. There are a LOT of things the iPhone gets right, the internet being the best example. However, I have stated here before that many if the Internet "uses" for me are native applications on your average BB. Advantage iPhone? Not so fast.
If there is one realm where the iPhone beats ANYthing hands down it is the GUI. Argue with me all you want but I will stand firm on this. You can hand an iPhone to a 60 year-old or a 6 year-old and they will "get it" much faster than with any BB. I have friends that still don't know how to turn a BB on.
The iPhone keyboard (for me) is just as quick and usable as a 72xx or 88xx. I use all of them constantly.
I am I the position of deciding if I keep my v1 iPhone as a media device and go with the Bold or go old Nano combo. I have a standing $300 offer on my v1 iPhone. Don't ask.
The iPhone is sex and intuitive and Google Reader works flawlessly with it (important as post news to 2 sites remotely).
What I see as differences between the two devices is the starting point and rate at which these devices are being marketed to the average consumer. IMO, the iPhone not only starts at a more general consumer-friendly position but is continuing down that road at a much faster rate than the BB.
The iPhone will be about making the masses happy ASAP.
On the other hand, the BB is coming from targeting the Corp or power-user and going after the general consumer but doing it with multiple product lines. IMO, this gives BB an advantage as they have a phone for the texter (Pearl), to average consumer wanting a smartphone (83xx, 88xx, Bold).
For me it is a tough choice. I need a phone that lets me use 5+ emails, IM, Twitter, and the Share function of Google Reader. The iPhone is sexy and Yahoo mail on the iPhone is. SICK fast but the Bold is going to get some serious consideration.
I have to admit I am on full-bars of wi-fi but the keyboard lag of this iPhone is pi$$ing me off.
Passing out now.
Who's that peekin' in my window?...POW....nobody now.

One phrase that people keeps using that makes me almost physically ill is "this phone is sexy," "that phone is sexy." I have NEVER seen anyone use a cell phone where I thought to myself, "wow! that phone is sexy."
Just an off topic rant. Thank you very much.

One thing I have heard people complain about with the iPhone is the keyboard, but I wonder how many of those people have actually used one. That will be the deciding factor for me. I will go into the store after release and try one myself. Then.......?
I'm BACK with my Curve 8310.

Maybe not sexy, but devices have to have some appeal, otherwise every phone would be a black plastic rectangle. Manufactures hire designers to make their products look good. It may not be important to some, but I feel they would be in the minority.
