Is it comparable or am I comparing apples to oranges?
How will the Curve and Bold stucked up against the up coming HTC Touch Diamond and Raphael for the Sprint Network?

In 2 words, Windows Mobile. You either love it or hate it. I for one don't care for it and find the BB OS to be much more stable then WM. That said, the CDMA Diamond isn't out yet, so I can't comments of that particular phone, but under the fancy Touch Flow interface is still WM.

BB's are the best ! Push email and easy to use.

I've used windows6 on an HTC 620/Tmobile Dash, and I now have an 8310. I feel like the BB OS is faster, more stable, easier to use, and just generally better all around.

Tmobile Dash <shudders> was like a bad dream! I wanted it because it had WiFi (new to phones at that time). The pearl is WAY better. Not even close. Those things crashed like kids in bumpercars.

Hahaha. I own a BB pearl 8110 and a AT&T Tilt. Excuse my language but my Tilt Shits on every BB that's out even future ones. Hands down. First off, I use my Tilt as a router so I can connect my laptop to it, Remote desktop, a grip of third party apps, practically anything that you can do on a PC you can do on a Windows Mobile phone. No competition. I'm on this site to help BB users since at my job (AT&T) that's what I do. Tech support. I only have a BB 8110 because it's my company phone. Not to rain on anyones parade but just speaking the truth. I haven't even told you guys what other crazy stuff my phone can do. Oh yeah.. I can use my phone as a webcam by connecting it to a PC. I have used an HTC S621 for about a year and a half and I still find it to be better than the BB curve. I'm new to blackberries but I miss some of the small features I am used to on the HTC like e-mail being able to see all of my e-mail and not just newer e-mail. And my e-mail comes in just as fast on my WM device as the BB. And yes WM does do push e-mail.

The main complaint I hear with WM phones is that it crashes/freezes a lot. Other than that it can support more apps than the BB.

I agree: HTC isn't bad, but WM is a no-go for me.

OK it sounds like a tie as far as the OS what about the radio I use a touch now I personally think the radio in it sucks MOO what about the curve radios can you pull a better signal and get less dead spots or is it about the same???

Apples and oranges, IMHO. It would take something really incredible to get me to own anything but a Berry. The stabilty and security just haven't been touched by anyone else. On the other hand, my wife has owned an HTC Wing for over a year and is very happy with it. It's all in what best suits your needs.

The BIGGEST difference between BB and WM devices (at least in my opinion) is the ability to install apps to the memory card... BB CANNOT do this... Which means you can't ever have all the apps on it at a time that you may want...

That's the one thing pushing me back to WM... Getting my new 5800 in a few days...

I work with lots of BlackBerry's and WM devices. Personally I don't think you can directly compare a BB to a WM device. BB's really do excel as portable email devices and the blackberry enterprise solution despite its many flaws and bugs is still brilliant.

However WM devices do have a LOT more applications available for them and they are easier to develop for. The flip side of this is that they do crash a lot. I used a Curve and a HTC touch dual. My touch I have to soft reset at least once a week where as my curve can normally go a few weeks before I have to pull the battery on it.

The Raphael is one of the best looking devices I've seen in a long time and I check every few days for any new information on it, but the fact that it has Windows Mobile turns me away. I think you'd have to play around with both phones to see which device is more suitable for your needs.

E-Mail is much better on WM devices with full E-Mail sync. I have a BB and a WM device. On the BB the POP3 and IMAP e-mails are downloaded on the phone but when deleting them on the phone they do not delete them on the server and vise versa. My WM phone works perfect for full 2-way sync. In my opinion I really don't see what the big deal about the Blackberries are as they require a higher data plan and do not have as good of E-Mail sync and E-Mail support. On my WM phone I can see all subfolders and all E-Mails on exchange plus I can see all folders and E-Mails from IMAP accounts. Personally I think a lot of people go for them just because of the name. Other than being able to lock down and control the phone there really is not much of a difference and without that the WM device wins in my opinion anyway.

There are other differences.
On BB you can do everything from the keyboard. Usually a few keystrokes. WM is not as fully thought out. I find the BB is usually a lot faster to get around. For those of us that depend on communicating with speed and accuracy the BB is unmatched.

Because of BES all my communications between the BES server and the device is encrypted. The device memory itself is encrypted. The memory card is encrypted. If I lose my BB I send it a command to self destruct (wipe ). If someone finds it and enters the wrong password 5 times it wipes itself. They can still use it as a phone until the service provider disables it, so in an emergency I can still use it even if I cannot get data off of it - but I am sure no one else can either.

I am not sure about battery life - and the bold does suck it down quite a bit - but now with .162 firmware I am getting up to 3 days. With previous blackberries I was getting more like 4-5 days between charges. How's WM in regards to this?

I found that with WM it was really Dependant on that little touchpen - which was so easy to lose.

Application wise - yes it was easy to get apps on it that would make the WM OS pretty unstable. I believe I had to reset my device to default at least 3 times in it's short lifespan. BB does everything you need a communications device to do. Remote desktop on a small screen like on a WM - that is masochism. I prefer to carry a small laptop if I think I'll need remote desktop.

WM is pretty much a jack of all trades but a master of none. The BB is more of a highly skilled tradesman - it doesn't fix cars but sometimes you do need a specialist.

On the WM there are devices that have a full QWerty keyboard like the HTC S620 or Sprint Mogul. Yes on the BES you can send the wipe command and you can on WM devices that are attached to exchange but it's kind of strange because it just gives the user a message that it needs an update and they can hit cancel so not as secure. Battery life is pretty good on the BlackBerry compared to the HTC devices I have had but with both phones I can make it through the day with no issues. So the security is the big issue I'm finding on the BB as opposed to the WM devices.

WM devices are great but they do have some disadvantages like not having a taskbar for programs to reopen again. You need to close the current program for you to use another program. Also it really drains a lot of battery life. I still haven't used an HTC phone so I still can't comment on that.

That actually isnt entirely accurate. You can access open programs through the task manager on WM so you dont need to completely shut it down. All WM devices can do this so its not HTC specific.

I agree with you on the battery life however. I have ActiveSync push email and use it as a phone extensively. It tends to burn out in 6 hours, sometimes less. Im using the Dopod D810 aka HTC P3600.

I got a blackjack when it first came out and took it back and got a pearl, I was much happier with the pearl. I have the curve now which is the the best phone I ever had. I had an iphone for a while and I IHATED it

I have had the Wing, XV6800, 8830 and 8330. The biggest thing for me was/is the reception of the phone. I can sit here at my desk at work and use my Blackberrys all day long, but was not able to receive a call using the HTC devices. I did like all the apps for the WM, but the stability of the BB OS kills the WM and the push email is another big plus.
