Default Leaving iPhone, going BB - Curve or Bold?! - 10-12-2008, 11:06 PM

Hey guys, I'm sort of new in the forum!

I'm currently in the search of a new phone, had my iPhone 2g for a few months now, but I'm kinda bored of it, 2.1 fw isn't the last wonder, it still has bugs, still call dropping, and it isn't 3g.

So decided to switch to bb's because of the blackberry messenger, many people here in Venezuela use it as a very powerful comunication tool, as well as the business features, and also looking for the reliability I used to have when I had Nokia's.

The big question, Curve 8320 or the new Bold? I like the slimness and light of the curve, the wifi, I dont use gps, but I understand the curve has blackberry maps and it works similar to gps services. The Bold has all that, new software and bla bla, gps + wifi, but that device is huge, so carrying that thing in your pocket must be a PITA.

Help me decide guys

Huge? No, it's not. It's just slightly wider than the iPhone, and only slightly thicker. What you get for that size difference, however, is huge.

Well it depends if you really want more functionality with a phone. The Bold sounds like a better off smartphone than the Curve.

Using a BlackBerry 8800 with http://www.TheMessagecenter.com as my BES.

I would recommend the Bold if you are still looking. Since it supports HSDPA and has better keyboard in terms of larger buttons, i would choose it.

Tell us which one you got in the end.

Whats kind of funny is that CNET doesn't either consider the iPhone a smart phone. Look here: Best smartphones - CNET Reviews It is considered a MP3 phone Best MP3 phones - CNET Reviews.

The iPhone is nice, but its not as "Brilliant" as I thought it would be. Maybe thats why its not considered a smartphone.

It is not worth paying a big difference for Bold. I think Curve is like $99 ? now . If so, go with that, Bold is just too expensive, since it is new and all. Wait until after christmas, they may give $100 use it or lose it rebate card.

Oops since you are in venezuela, I have no idea how much it costs there, but it should cost much less, -- so it depends on the price.

Check My Topic Here
Mine: 8100 with T-Mo -> 8300 with AT&T
Wife's: 8120 with T-Mo -> 8900 with T-Mo

CNET is obviously is pretty clueless about smartphones it would seem. The iphone is the reason for the recent popularity of smartphones in the consumer market.

Mmmm....

IMHO - had the 8310 and went to the 9000 - Bold is Great phone!

Now if someone with the 9500 would chime in - I am sure there are other opinions - and I have not seen the 9500 yet...

Bold has fast fast menuing, beautiful screen, wifi speed when attached to ap's, great sound, good phone characteristics, 3G speed, great keyboard once you get used to it (took about a week)...

Now, if you can still get the deals at Walmart etc... for less money or the same money as an 8310, you may be able to get a Bold...
