That was my first impression based on the quality. But it is an unusual variety of apple so it wasn't clear.

I'd heard it was a legit ad pitched to RIM by the ad agency that created it. RIM rejected it on the basis that it was too competitive/confrontational. Didn't want to even mention Apple or allude to them, nor did they want to start a pissing contest with the lads in Cupertino.

Marketing is not RIM's strong point, and we all know Apple is a marketing Juggernaut. It wouldn't be in RIM's best interest to start a a marketing war with Apple, IMO. The Storm is selling pretty well on the ads out right now.

LOL !! The ad is in reference to the Storm ?!? Nothing can touch it ?? Every single person I know that purchased a Storm got rid of it within the 30 day trial period through Verizon ! Love BB, but the Storm is a JOKE !! Thank Verizon for that !!
