Default Tmobile upgrading time - 9700 or mytouch slide?

Please Login to Remove!

Wife - 8310 unlocked and will almost definitely upgrade to a 9700 in the next month
Me - 8900

We BBM relatively often, I use google maps, facebook, gmail, slingplayer, and only infrequently use internet.

Will the mytouch slide disappoint me?

Is there an instant messenger app that will work to connect the 9700 with the MTslide?

I could get the slide from walmart for $140 with a contract extension, I'm on month 12 of a 2 year contract. Or would that be wicked dumb, because in another year there will be phones that are amazing and way better than current ones?

When it comes to google maps, gmail, and internet browsing, the mytouch slide (MTS) will be best suited for this as all the google based services are integrated into the underlying android architecture.

Facebook will be a little bit better on the MTS as there are apps on android that let you integrate it directly with your contacts, etc.

However, BBM is unique to blackberries and the closest you would ever get to it would be AIM or some other third party instant messenger program.

Personally, I was stuck between an android device and a blackberry but chose the BB in the end because I don't do too much of the social networking thing but BBM and email is quite important while I am on the job.

I would suggest just playing with display models or trying them out for a few days to see how it suits you.

internet browsing would be better on MTS

as for gmail? Sorry to say, I still think its better on the BB. Email I believe is integrated better still on the BB, more seamless. Then again it depends how much email your doing to justify this.

As for google maps, their the same on either phone. Honestly the only advantage the MTS has on the BB is the pinch and zoom being it has a touch screen (if you want to consider this an advantage).

When it comes to Instant Messenger and social networking like facebook, I still believe the BB is best for this hands down. It's just integrated in so much better and I think that running apps in the background helps.

The MTS also has spoken turn-by-turn directions integrated into the OS.

I'm not trying to say which is better in general, I'm just trying to let him know the pros and cons of each from my personal experience. I do have to note that with a touch screen, it makes things quicker when it comes to browsing...this is why I'm anxiously watching the 9800 slider :D

Oh ya, I forgot about that, with android 2.1

Doesn't matter, google navigation will be available sooner or later for all platforms.
