Default Blackberry data plan vs. regular unlimited data - 07-19-2009, 09:20 AM

Can anyone tell me what the difference between the "unlimited" data plan and the "blackberry" data plan for at&t is.

I have an LG CU920 (VU) and want to get a curve 8310 but don't know if I will have to change/upgrade my data plan.

The VU was boasted as a "smart" phone when I got it and now I hate it.

Can someone help?

The BlackBerry data plan allows your device to authenticate to the RIM infrastructure, which results in allowing you to use all of the data features that are native to the BlackBerry device. (Email, Web Browsing with BlackBerry Browser, BlackBerry Messenger, PIN, SMS and MMS messaging, etc...)

Without the BlackBerry Data Plan, you won't be able to use those features.

If you want to use those features on your BlackBerry, yes.

You would need to change your data paln to either something specific to Windows Mobile, or a generic plan, depending on the carrier.

1st Step in Troubleshooting: Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan?
2nd Step in Troubleshooting: Pull the Battery.

Actually SMS doesn't require a data plan at all. It is carried via the phone system, not data system, soo you need is a voice plan and SMS enabled. However it can get really expensive without an accompanying text plan.
