Unhappy Blackberry 8320 Curve BT as a GPRS modem over Blue Tooth

Please Login to Remove!

Good day!

I have a blackberry Curve 8320 (On Orange UK contract) which works perfectly with a Bluetooth hands free, BT receive images from the Curve but NOT operate as a modem when I try to connect to GPRS from the laptop using BT

I have established a data connection via a CardBUS gprs card on this laptop using the same SIM but taking the SIM out of the Blackberry is not easy compared with the old Palm 650 it replaced

The Bluetooth device is a miniature device
Smallest Mini USB 2.0 Bluetooth Dongle Adapter Class 2 on eBay, also, Bluetooth, Networking, Computing (end time 28-Mar-08 20:00:00 GMT)

And is running IVT BlueSoleil VoIP Release 071227

I am using the following extra modem settings

unchecked the "wait for dial tone"

user: user
password: pass
number: *99***# OR 99#

Errors 628 / 678 / 692 - 692 then 678

Any way to establish why it is not handshaking or the other problems

I have noticed ONLY the dialup networking icon is active on the bluesoleil control panel

This is the second BT adaptor I have had the same woes with

BTW I do not have any XP SP2 native BT support visible

Smile mine works great

curve 8320
tmobile us with unlimited blackberry data plan option
CONNECTED via bluetooth to desktop manager.
dial *99# for the number in the modem settings
extra modem init string +cgdcont=1,"IP",""
no username or password in dialup properties
compression/lcp extentions/hardware flow etc all CHECKED.

connects quick, via bluetooth, even while on UMA over WiFi.

it took me almost an hour and a half of tinkering before i could get it to connect. first it wouldnt open the port. then it wouldnt dial. then it would error out after 'verifying username/password'. then it would timeout after the same. the magic setting was that modem init string +cgdcont=1,"IP","" . it worked after that and its quite fast.
