Default Pairing with PC and changing profile based on proximity

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone,

When I'm at my laptop, I get notifications of e-mail, and then a few seconds later, I get to read it on the PC.

If I paired the PC and the BlackBerry, it would then know if I was within 10 metres of the PC. Is it possible (either with the BB OS or an add-on application) to change the profile based on whether or not a paired device is detected as being active?

Comments and thoughts welcomed.

No, that's not possible.

Can you elaborate? Can 3rd-party software for the device not talk to Bluetooth? Can it not set your profile? Can the Bluetooth stack not know if another device is close?

I didn't think it would be possible out of the box. I suspected that it could be made possible by someone with the time and inclination

I'm not aware of any Bluetooth Profile for proximity, and even if there was, I'm not aware of any method changing a profile based on Bluetooth.
You'd need to ask a BlackBerry developer for any juicy details, as I am not one.

As an aside, this should be possible the other way around, with something like BlueProximity (Linux) or BtProx (Windows) locking/unlocking your PC when your phone is away.
