i have problems pairing my bb 8000 with my hp compaq nx9420 laptop with integrated bluetooth and read about possible problems, but want to precheck with you if I really need to configure driver files.

1.) my bb found my hp and asked me to enter a numeric passkey
2.) i entered "1234" to test and got a message that pairing failed right away

does this mean i have the wrong password (what would be the right one?) or that my hp has problems as i have read everywhere.

If you got that far you probably have Microsoft BT drivers on your HP lappy and pairing should work. You should use passkey 0000 on both your phone and your lappy, that should do the job.
