Default Belkin USB bluetooth and 8700c problems - 01-14-2006, 08:28 PM

Hi all,
Just bought an 8700c for Cingular. I am using a Belking Bluetooth adapter on a Thinkpad T43 laptop.

I checked http://www.blackberry.com/knowledgec...50&vernum=12#2 and verified that what they say for system reqts is ok in mine.

The problem: Even though when I click on Blackberry Device Manager, it shows 'connected' to my phone, Desktop Manager shows disconnected (Ive selected bluetooth in the connection)

Couple of notes:

1. The instructions say WIDCOM driver is not supported and I must have MS installed. It looks like I have MS installed (when I double clicked on the bluetooth icon, I saw bluetooth devices not "my bluetooth places"). However, when I check Device manager, I see, under bluetooth radios, "Belkin Bluetooth Adapter" and "Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator" - is tis ok ?

2. The instructions say that when I discover the phone and say, create a pin, 99999999, in the connection settings, I should see "bluetooth-PIN:99999999". I DONT. Instead, I see "bluetooth-PIN:203xxxxxxx" where "203xxxxxx" is the hardcoded PIN of my phone when I click on its status - though my "bluetooth" association PIN is 9999999

So anyway, at the end, desktop manager shows disconnected
I even tried recycling my battery did not work

When you installed the adapter, did you use the provided CD for the BT drivers? You want to use the MS drivers that's part of XP-SP2 and not the manufacturer's drivers.

Hi, to be honest I don't remember.

However, when I go to Control Panel -> add remove programs, I don't see any 3rd party BT apps

Also, when I right click on device managers, for the loaded drivers, I see
Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator (by microsoft) and Belking Bluetoon Adaptor (by Microsoft) - so looks like they are both MS

more updates:

1) I tried this in my home computer - works fine
2) Does not work on my laptop (thinkpad T43 with belkin bt usb adapter)

I even went so far as to download WIDCOM, install, then uninstall and use microsoft drivers ....

Someone also suggested he got his adapter working after a power recycle and battery pull out and back in - tried that too....

help !

(PS: USB cable connectivity works )

Is there a power issue ? My laptop is connected to AC
